ABSOLUTE DATING

 Remember Relative Dating determines the order of events, but cannot be used to determine when exactly the vents occurred  Remember the deeper an item is, the older it is. This is the Law of Superposition RECAP

 Remember no exact date is given NEWSPAPER EXAMPLE

 Absolute Dating gives an number age  It is Very Complicated  Remember everything is made up of matter  All matter is made up of atoms  Overtime, the amount of specific atoms change in a specific pattern  One type of Absolute Dating is called Carbon Dating  Scientist look at how the pattern of Carbon changes over time to determine the age of the object ABSOLUTE DATING

CARBON DATING

 After you see the clue, write Absolute or Relative on your write boards  If the clue is both, then write both  The first group that has the answer wins ABSOLUTE VS. RELATIVE GAME

 Law of Superposition RELATIVE VS. ABSOLUTE

 Tells Age more precisely RELATIVE VS. ABSOLUTE

 Compares looks at the amount of Atoms leftover RELATIVE VS. ABSOLUTE

ABSOLUTE VS. RELATIVE

 Looks at Fossils ABSOLUTE VS. RELATIVE

 Deeper = Older RELATIVE VS. ABSOLUTE

 Carbon Dating RELATIVE VS. ABSOLUTE

 The Work of a Geologist ABSOLUTE VS. RELATIVE

 Estimated Order RELATIVE VS. ABSOLUTE

 Carbon 14 to Carbon 12 RELATIVE VS. ABSOLUTE

 More Complicated Type of Dating RELATIVE VS. ABSOLUTE

 Information about Earth’s Past RELATIVE VS. ABSOLUTE
