Our Goals We are interested in: Creating a tool to assess the food promotion environment Validity and Reliability Assess whether purchasing behavior is related to the food promotion environment within the store
Hypotheses Low income stores will have more unhealthy products in featured promotion locations in the store. Stores from predominantly Latino neighborhoods will have more unhealthy products in key promotion locations than stores in predominantly Asian or white neighborhoods. Customers who are exposed to key product categories more times during a shopping trip will be more likely to purchase one of these items.
Our Tasks: Data Collect data on grocery stores 4 target neighborhoods: high income white, low income white, low income Asian, low income Latino Visit 15 stores in each area and fill out Grocery Store Promotion data sheet Return to 8 stores each week (2 in each area) for up to 12 weeks to assess changes over time
Our Tasks: Receipts We will collect receipts outside of the grocery stores we return to each week Compare receipts collected to store data There will be a recruiter script used to ask for receipts, as well as a study summary sheet to hand out to participants upon request Ask for receipt Remove all personal info from receipt and return to participant (payment info, etc). Note participant gender and presence of grey hair on receipt as participant leaves
