Beluga, Orca, and Gray Whales! By Maddie M., Lexi A., Molly S., and Catie O.

Whales In our slide show you will learn more about the gray, orca, and beluga whale. Though each whale is different, they still have some things in common. Enjoy our slide show!

Orca Whale I drew an orca jumping in the sunset. Orcas are whales also known as killer whales. Even though they haven’t caused a human death, they are called killer whales because they kill other whales. A male orca can weigh up to nine tons and grow over thirty feet long! Did you know that they perform in marine parks? When an orca is hungry, it feasts on any sea mammals including the largest whales! That is a little about orcas or killer whales. ~Maddie M. Gray Whale I am researching the gray whale. The gray whale is a baleen whale. It eats small fish, or mostly krill. They live only in the North Pacific and Arctic seas. Gray whales migration is the longest known to mammals, they travel ten thousand miles! Gray whales feed differently from other whales. They swim on their sides at the bottom of the ocean, and pushes water out of its mouth between its baleen plates, stirring up sediment from the ocean floor. Then the whale draws back its tongue and swallows the catch coming up from the bottom of the ocean. That is a little bit about the gray whale. ~Lexi A. I am researching the gray whale. Orca Whale This is the Orca whale, also known as the Killer whale. In my picture it shows the killer whales environment. Behind the whale there are mountains to show you how you can find most of them near land. The killer whale eats squid, fish, and penguins as well as seals, and sea lions and sometimes other big whales. Most whales eat seals. Whales hunt in groups called pods. All of the whales work together to knock a seal off ice burgs. To do that they would keep crashing into it until the seal slides off the ice burg. Killer whales are gentle and there is no record of them causing a human death. The Killer whale is an endangered species so help keep the ocean clean. That's a little about the killer whale. ~Molly S. This is the Orca whale, also known as the Killer whale. In my picture it shows the killer whales environment. Beluga Whale The whale I chose is a beluga whale. The beluga whale is also called the white whale because it is white. The beluga whale is found mostly in the Artic, Northern Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The beluga whale eats fish such as cod, herring, squid, octopus and crab. A beluga whale ranges thirteen to twenty feet in length. Beluga whales have rounded foreheads and no dorsal fin. Beluga whales travel in small groups called pods. Those are some facts about beluga whales. ~Catie O. The whale I chose is a beluga whale. The beluga whale is also called the white whale because it is white.
