CAMPUS CLIMATE, COMMUNITY PERCEPTIONS, AND INVOLVEMENT

STAFF: CAMPUS CULTURE Successes Overall, staff surveys indicate that our staff is happy to be working at Bluebonnet Elementary School! Staff turn over is low. We have 100% staff membership in our PTA!

Parent PTA Membership

Campus Culture, Community Perceptions and Involvement Successes Overall, climate surveys reflect a positive improvement in Bluebonnet Elementary Schools campus climate! Parent membership in PTA has increased dramatically from 6 to 146 members in the last year! Families have numerous school activities in which they can be involved including drama night, literacy, math, and science nights, etc.- Parental and community involvement has improved! Monthly School Newsletters are sent home to all parents

Campus Culture, Community Perceptions and Involvement Areas for Improvement “Increase communication tools employed to provide information regarding RRISD instructional programs” (Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan) Student and parent perception of the campus climate and experience within the school need to be improved. We want all student and parents to be proud of our school and confident in the quality of education that we provide! Improvement to the School Website are needed in order to communicate effectively, inform parents, and reflect the 21 st century community. More parental and community activities are needed in order to ensure continued improvements in involvement and communication.

TAKS Reading, Writing, Math, and Science Scores by Demographics *2012 data not yet available online Successes Bluebonnet Elementary school has significantly improved their Math TAKS scores! (*African American demographic is the lowest at 79%) Science TAKS scores have increased! (*The white demographic has experience a slight decrease) “Teachers regularly collect, analyze, and use data. Data is shared with students and is frequently displayed. The observation-feedback cycle is used with teachers to identify areas for professional growth that will positively impact student achievement” (Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan).

TAKS Reading, Writing, Math, and Science Scores by Demographics *2012 data not yet available online Areas for Improvement Overall, reading and writing scores have dropped dramatically over the last three years, across grade levels and for all student groups. LEP students continue to underperform in reading (67%)- “Increase TAKS/STAAR passing rates for LEP and first/second year monitored students by 4%” (Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan) Writing is the biggest content area in need of improvement. All student groups have experienced significant decreased in student performance.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND ASSESSMENTS OVERALL GOALS “Formative assessments following implementation of individual strategies will demonstrate an increased awareness” (Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan) “Increase the percentage of students progressing at least one level or maintaining advanced high on the TELPAS Composite Rating by 1% Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan). All teams need to work collaboratively in order to analyze data and plan for the future “Engaging students in the data process and utilizing formative assessment are areas of focus” (Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan). “Student data folders will be a focus for professional growth in (Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan).

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND ASSESSMENTS OVERALL GOALS CONTINUED P.2 Continue the following: “Teachers regularly collect, analyze, and use data. Data is shared with students and is frequently displayed. The observation-feedback cycle is used with teachers to identify areas for professional growth that will positively impact student achievement” (Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan). Writing is the biggest content area in need of improvement. All student groups have experienced significant decreased in student performance. Current student attendance is in the 4 th quartile at 96% and poses a concern for student learning and achievement- “Increase average daily attendance rate by.4%” (Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan).

Staff Quality

*Our average teacher has 7.6 years of experience.

Staff Qualifications Successes 100% of our teachers are certified 92% of our teachers are certified in Bilingual Education, ESL, and/or a Foreign Language Areas for Improvement Collect Staff Biographies that include information regarding teachers experience, certification areas, and education levels. Biographies will be placed on the school website and on the school data wall. Data needs to be collected on staffs level of education. BA, BA+15, BA+30, MA, MA+15, MA+30, PHD Data needs to be collected on the teachers professional development current classroom needs. A survey will be sent out via surveymonkey. Data will be collected, analyzed, and professional development opportunities will be planned and organized.

SCHOOL PROCESSES

School Processes Successes The master schedule includes intervention time. We honor instruction time by taking into consideration and limiting classroom interruptions such as special events, announcements, etc. SST meetings are consistently held each Friday in order to monitor student growth and progress as well as discuss additional methods, strategies, and interventions. Areas for Improvement The staff needs consistently scheduled time to analyze and discuss student data. Teams need identified times to plan and discuss student expectations not just vertically, but horizontally as well.

Technology: School Processes Successes Bluebonnet Elementary has numerous programs available that are frequently utilized by teachers including Lexia Read Naturally Read 180 iStation Think Through Math Areas for Improvement “Identify and Implement key components from the Technology Committee Recommendations” (Bluebonnet ES Campus Improvement Plan). Bluebonnet has the goal of increasing the student’s use of technological resources as tools for learning. Increased resources are needed for student use and classroom instruction (ex. Interactive whiteboards, etc.)
