What is a GANTT chart? A Gantt chart is a type of bar chart that illustrates a project schedule. Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a project. Terminal elements and summary elements comprise the work breakdown structure of the project.

Why “GANTT”? Henry Laurence Gantt, ( ) was an American mechanical engineer and management consultant who is most famous for developing the Gantt chart in the 1910s.

Activity In groups of 3, list some of the important phases of your project that need to be set and monitored using a GANTT chart. Also discuss the level of detail that needs to be included. Agree on a strategy for monitoring milestones and keeping the project on target against the original plan. Report back to the group on your findings.
