SOPHIE LAPIERRE The History of Marketing

Evolution of marketing This picture is of the evolution of marketing. It shows that humans have always been using different marketing concepts. An example of this is when caveman would trade their things, they would try to sell the idea of what they had. They did this so that they could get something that they needed or something that they needed.

Where did marketing start? Marketing has been around since the caveman. They would trade what they had for either things they needed or for better things. The new meaning of marketing has only been around since the 1970’s when the industrial revolution took place. The new meaning involves four different steps;  Design  Production  Marketing  Sales

Design Definition; A plan or drawing produced to show the look and function or workings of a building, garment, or other object before it is built or made. The design team gets to create a logo, as well as the style of shirt (or other item). The design has to appeal to the consumer.

Production Definition; the idea that a company should make low cost products in large quantities rather than products that suit customers’ particular needs for which they would pay more During the industrial revolution company's focused on the production of products instead of the consumers wants and or needs. Supply and demand is something that company’s now go by, it means that they try to cater to the needs and or wants of the consumer. The production team is in charge of finding A company to make the product that the design team created.

Marketing Definition; The action or business of promoting and selling products or services. The marketing team is in charge of doing focus groups, to find out what people are interested in. Marketers also have to create ads that make people want their product. These ads can be anything from posters to YouTube videos. The ads have to be something that catch peoples eye.

Sales Definition; The exchange of a commodity for money; the action of selling something. The sales team is in charge of choosing if they would like to make a profit off of the product or not. If they choose to make a profit they have to choose how much they would like to sell the product for and for how much.
