Mobile phones  Mobile phones are devices which you can call, text and social network on.  The origin of the mobile phone goes back to 1908 when a US Patent was issued in Kentucky for a wireless telephone.  The first hand-held cell phone was demonstrated by John F. Mitchell and Dr. Martin Cooper of Motorola in  In 1983, the DynaTAC 8000x was the first to be commercially available. 41 years

Mobile Phones  I am going to discuss:  The five main uses of mobile phones  The development of mobile phones  The future of mobile phones

Development of Mobile Phones  The origin of the mobile phone goes back to 1908 when a US Patent was issued in Kentucky for a wireless telephone.  The very first mobile phones were used as two-way radios that allowed people like taxi drivers and the emergency services to communicate.  Motorola was the first company to produce a handheld mobile phone  in April 1973 the first ever call on a handheld mobile phone was made.  in the mid-eighties, the First Generation (1G) fully automatic cellular networks were introduced.  The first text message was sent in 1992  Then phones started developing by adding cameras, internet access and apps.

Uses of mobile phones

Calls  Making calls on mobile phones have been around for 42 years  40% of smartphone users say they could manage without call function on their device  The average person uses their mobile for an hour and 52 minutes a day  Survey says around 20 minutes of this is spent making three phone calls  Most people text or use instant messenger to communicate.

Texting  Texting has only been around for 23 years  In the graph it shows that nearly 80% of people use texting in 2012  Nearly 80% of adults in the UK text every day  Most people text rather than calls because it is a lot easier and faster.

Social networking  Social networking is a very big and used part of mobiles.  In % of adults used their mobile phones for internet access.  The Apple App Store launched in July 2008  25 billion apps get downloaded each month.  People use apps to communicate, share images, play games, , social networking.

camera  The early phones didn’t have a camera on the back and even the front.  The first cell phone with a built-in camera was manufactured by Samsung and released in South Korea in June of the built-in digital camera was capable of taking 20 photos at 350,000-pixel resolution, which is 0.35-megapixels,  Now phones can have up to 41 megapixels  Front cameras have been added so that people can take selfies and for use of Skype and facetime.

GPS  GPS helps people to find directions to places and help them if they are lost.  Now that it has been added to phones it has saved people from using and buying sat-navs.  People can also share there location so other people can find them.

Legal, social and ethnical issues  Legal  People can hack into mobile phones to collect information and track them.  Cold callers can constantly phone people to sell insurance, products etc. This can be very annoying.  Social  People have become more unsociable because people are spending more time on the phone rather than having conversations with people.  Ethnical  Some people use mobile phones while driving which distracts them from the road and can cause accidents and even deaths.
