Presentation transcript:

Halo Visual Presentation Mrs. Pearce September 22, 2010

What is the topic or subject of the text? The topic or subject of Halo is the awakening the author experiences through her new found love. “It’s like I’ve been awakened”

List 3 details about the author. How do these details reveal the author’s purpose of creating this text? Written about Beyonce and Jay-Z Inspired by Ray LaMontagne. Beyonce sang Halo at a tribute to Michael Jackson. Purpose: Reveals Beyonce’s love for Jay-z; her inspiration from a raspy, soulful singer; recognizes the impact of an artist on an art form.

During what major literary period was the text written? Explain how the historical context impact’s the author’s purpose & topic or subject of this text. Written during the Contemporary Literary Period, this song displays the significance and beauty of new beginnings, awakenings and the freedom of unconditional acceptance and love. “Standing in the light of your halo, I got my angel now”

What does the meaning of the title convey? Peace, understanding and love can bring new life to someone who may have been afraid to truly live before. “It’s like I’ve been awakened, Every rule I had you breakin, It’s the risk that I’m takin, I ain’t never gonna shut you out.”

How is the setting significant to the overall meaning of the text? The comfort of being who you are while at home, and having someone share that comfort with you is both Enlightening and uplifting.

Describe the mood of the text. (Use text evidence). A new beginning. An awakening of the heart, soul and mind. “Remember those walls I built Well, baby they’re tumbling down And they didn’t even put up a fight They didn’t even make up a sound”

Cite specific examples of foreshadowing and/or flashbacks in the text. “I swore I’d never fall again This don’t even feel like falling Gravity can’t forget To pull me back to the ground”

Who are the main characters of the text? What is the primary conflict? The woman, nameless, and her “angel.” Character vs. Self “Everywhere I’m looking now I'm surrounded by your embrace Baby I can feel your halo Pray it wont fade away.”

Point of View First person/subjective

Sensory details “I can see your halo halo halo I canfeel your halo halo halo I can see your halo halo halo I can feel your halo halo halo” The strength, love, trust, security and peace of the new love allowes her to finally live again; really live not just go through the motions of life.

Sensory Details

Identify allusions from the text. The light, the halos, the out stretched arms, the warmth of the embrace, “feel the halo” “my saving grace” No one represents peace, love and a chance at new life, like Jesus in the words of The Bible.

Is the theme of the text implicit or explicit?

My theme for the text. My theme is both complex and simple. Love with all your heart, and allow yourself to take the chance. The chance is well worth it, and the light of truth will shine on you.
