Classification Of Animals Adel Issa

Vertebrates

Fish They all have gills so they can breath, they all have fins so they can swim in the right direction. They all lay thousands of eggs, they don’t worry about their children. Fishes were the first animals to evolve backbones. The ray-finned fishes are the largest group of fish. Fishes move by creating a wave motion that moves the length of its body. Fishes are cold-blooded animals. Some fish can swim backwards. Stingrays use electric sensors to find food. This enables it to find its prey even if it is burried in the sand. A jellyfish has no brain. Experts believe that whale sharks may have a life span of up to 150 years. Sharks are able to see almost as well behind as they can see in front.

Amphibians They have really slimy skin, so that means that it can slip out of your hands easily. They have fish tails when they are young, they have 4 legs once they become adults. They lay hundreds of eggs, they don’t worry about their children. There are between 5,000 and 6,000 species of known amphibians alive today. The first amphibians appeared approximately 370 million years ago during the Devonian Period. The largest amphibian is the Chinese giant salamander. Amphibians are getting fewer around the world.

Reptiles They all have dry leathery scales, they have very small brains, they lay dozens of eggs, they worry a little about their young. There are about 8,000 species of known reptiles alive today.

Birds They all have feathers around their bodies, they all have 2 legs and 2 wings, they lay a dozen eggs, they don’t lay eggs, instead they have beaks. They all worry about their children, Birds are divided into 30 groups. The earliest known bird, Archaeopteryx lithographica, lived about 150 million years ago, there are 9,865 species of birds alive today, Birds do not have teeth. The largest of all birds is the ostrich.

Mammals They all have dry hair, they have 4 limbs, none of them lay eggs, they worry allot about their children. Mammals are divided into 21 groups. There are between 4,500 and 5,000 species of mammals. The first mammals appeared approximately 200 million years ago.
