Day 1 Classify Lesson Plan Student Sheet Classification is the process of putting things into groups. There are always many ways of grouping objects based on their appearance. Today students will set out to classify objects and animals according to some observable trait. The most important thing is that the students understand that you can only classify for one characteristic at a time. Do not allow them to make a group of yellow animals and another group of swimming animals because it is possible that an animal could be both yellow and a swimmer. Day 2 Insects and Spiders They are all bugs but can you tell the difference? Insects have 6 legs, 3 segmented body parts, 2 antennae, an exoskeleton and most have wings (as adults) Spiders have 8 legs, 2 segmented body parts, fangs, an exoskeleton and spinneret's. Day 3 Build a Spider and an Insect Now that your students have had an opportunity to identify and classify spiders and insects today they will get a chance to build one. Review with the students the similarities and differences between spiders and insects and then allow them to cut out the shapes and glue them together to make one of each. Day 4 Helpful and Harmful Insects Insects can be both helpful and harmful. Helpful insects like the bee make honey and pollinate flowers. Helpful ladybugs eat harmful aphids. Day 12 How Seeds Travel Lesson Plan Student Sheet Seeds travel! They can't just get up and walk to a new location, but structures on the seed may allow it to move to a new location. Many second Grade students may have blown dandelion seeds in the wind, seen helicopter like seeds fall from maple trees, witnessed acorns get carried of by squirrels, and been pricked by burrs as they walked through a field. Day 17 Leaves Lesson Plan Student Sheet Leaves come in many shapes and sizes but they all share a similar job. The job of the leaves is to make food (sugar) for the plants. Day 18 Flower and Plant Review The Job of the flower is to make new seeds for the plant. To make a seed pollen from a flower must mix with an ovule inside a flower.
