Wayne State University - Scott Hall – 3 rd floor 1 Main Menu Page System Start Up and Main Menu This room is equipped with a Crestron Remote Control System. Control is accomplished using a 12 inch Crestron touchscreen installed on the teaching station. The teaching station houses all the electronic equipment needed to support lectures and presentations. This document will illustrate and explain the Crestron control system and all the pages and buttons that exist in the touchscreen. The illustration on the left is the Main Menu Page, as it looks when the system is in an all-off condition. There are 4 main buttons along the bottom that perform page flips and system on functions. These buttons represent the 4 main modes of control offered: control the Left Projector, control the Right Projector, congtrol the room’s Lights and Screens, and a password protected technicians mode used to further adjust the projectors and set/reset passwords. Turns the System on and page flips to the Left Projector Control Page. Turns the System on and page flips to the Right Projector Control Page. Page flips to the Screens and Lights Control Page. (Does not turn System on if it is off). Causes a keypad to appear to enter a password to page flip to the Technicians Control Page.

2 The Left Projector Control Page is identical to the Right Projector Control Page, the difference being which projector is being controlled. All other functions are the same. Illustrations will be using the Left Projector Control page. The page has 3 main areas, the Selection area on the left, the Projector control area at the top, and the Audio control area on the right. The center area is used for selection specific control buttons (DVD and VCR) which appear when one of the controllable sources is selected. There are 5 Sources to Select: System PC selects the PC installed in the teaching station to display on the projector. Laptop PC selects the connection available on the top of the teaching station, typically connected to a laptop computer. This is a standard VGA type connection, with audio. Connect any VGA device. Document Cam selects the WolfVision document camera installed on the top of the teaching station. This is a high-resolution source. DVD selects the DVD player section of the JVC VCR/DVD combo deck installed in the teaching station. VCR selects the VHS VCR section of the JVC VCR/DVD deck. If the projector is OFF when a selection is made, it will turn on, the screen will lower, the projector will warm up, then display the selection. An alert ‘popup page’ will appear tracking the warmup cycle of the projector. Left Projector Control Page Each Source has an audio output which is connected to the system. When any Source is selected, its audio becomes the Program Audio signal which plays on the speakers installed on the front wall. The level of the Program Audio is adjusted using these buttons. Main Menu button page flips back to the Main Menu Page. All Microphones are mixed together and the mix volume level is adjusted using these buttons. The Microphone Mix will be heard on the ceiling speaker system, which is a separate audio system to the Program audio system. Projector Operations Wayne State University - Scott Hall – 3 rd floor Note that when the System is turned on, the Program and Microphone levels are set to the ‘default’ level of approx. 65% of maximum, which should be sufficient for playback and microphone levels without further adjustment. For large or noisy audiences, adjust the volume to a higher level. These Audio Control buttons are available on every Control Page.

3 Projector Warmup Popup Page Projector Operations Wayne State University - Scott Hall – 3 rd floor Projector Cooldown Popup Page The Epson Projectors require a warmup and a cooldown period. While these periods are in effect, the illustrated popup pages appear alerting you to the condition. The pages also have a bargraph timer that displays the progress of the period. Note that the popup pages appear over the projector control buttons, disallowing additional control functions until the cycles have completed.

4 Projector Operations Wayne State University - Scott Hall – 3 rd floor DVD Control Popup PageVCR Control Popup Page Selecting the DVD player causes the illustrated popup page to appear allowing full control of the DVD section of the JVC combo deck. These are the same commands found on the original hand- held remote control that ships with the deck. The top area of the popup page contains the ‘transport’ type buttons controlling playback of a DVD and the lower area contains all the buttons needed to navigate the DVD’s on-screen menus as well as setup and additional functionality of the DVD player. This popup page will remain in place until a new selection is made, or the projector is turned off. Selecting the VCR causes the illustrated popup page to appear allowing control of the VCR section of the JVC combo deck. Basic transport function buttons for tape playback are supported.

5 Projector Operations Wayne State University - Scott Hall – 3 rd floor Left Projector Page w/DVD Control Popup PageProjector Power Off popup page prompt When the Projector is on, pressing the ‘Off’ button will cause the illustrated popup page to appear. This popup page is a prompt to make turning the projector off a deliberate action. Press ‘Yes, I’m Finished’ to turn the projector off and begin the cooldown cycle. Press ‘No- go back’ to remove the popup prompt, no change to the projector. Note that the Left and Right Projectors are controlled independently, and turine one off will not turn the other one off. The ‘Mute Image’ button will remove the image from the projector, or ‘go to black’. Each projector individually has this function.

The only difference in the 2 control pages are the text descriptors at the top and the arrows that point toward the projector under control.

7 Lights and Screens Operations Wayne State University - Scott Hall – 3 rd floor Screens and Lights Page Lighting Control buttons. The room has 2 sections; the front and the back. These buttons allow control of the fluorescent lighting in each area. Each fixture has the ability of turning on one or two lamps. Turn on or off the desired lamps. Screen Control buttons. The room has 2 motorized screens, left and right. Note that the screen(s) are automatically lowered when the projector is turned on and raised when the projector is turned off. Use these buttons (and also the wall-switch buttons) to raise, lower or stop the screens any time. Main Menu button page flips back to the Main Menu Page.

Enter the 4 digit password to proceed to the Technicians Menu page. The Technicians Menu contains buttons for advanced projector control and password changing. Technicians Menu

9 Tech Page Operations Wayne State University - Scott Hall – 3 rd floor Left Projector Tech PageRight Projector Tech Page The Technicians Page is used for complete setup of the projector and also for displaying the feed from room 1301 on the projector(s). Included is the lamp hour meter, displaying the hours used on the projector’s lamp. The ‘Password Controls’ button causes the illustrated popup page to appear, allowing users to change the 4 digit password. The original password is required to proceed to the Tech Page, so users that are able to get to the tech page are granted permission to change the password. The default password is 1234, and the backdoor password (hardcoded) is 1988.

10 Shutting Down Wayne State University - Scott Hall – 3 rd floor Main Menu w/ Off ButtonMain Menu w/ Power Prompt Once the System has been turned on, the Main Menu Page will contain a new button not present when the System is off. The ‘System Off’ button will allow you to turn off the entire system. This is also a prompt type function to make the function deliberate. Press ‘System Off’ to cause the illustrated popup prompt to appear. Press ‘Yes, I’m Finished’ to turn off any projector that is on, raise its screen, depower certain equipment installed in the teaching station, and finally remove the System Off Prompt and button, and finally returning to the state described in slide 1. You are free to turn the System back on immediately, but any projector still in its cooldown cycle will have the cooldown prompt displayed on its control page. Once cooldown is complete, make a seletion to turn the projector back on.
