The weather in Punta Cana is nice all year-round, with the temperatures averaging around 25°C. Travellers visiting Punta Cana at any time can count on extended periods of sunshine and blue skies – ideal weather for relaxation, water sports and getting a nice suntan. During the cool season, from November to April, the weather in Punta Cana is warm, with low levels of humidity and low rainfall. Temperatures along the coast are constant around 29°C during the day and drop to 20°C at night. During the hot season, which runs from May to October, the average temperature rises to 31°C during the daytime and drops to about 22°C at night.

History of Area Tourists who come to stay In Punta Cana usually don’t know that Punta Cana is actually the name of the area to the south where the first hotel was built. Most of today’s resorts are not in Punta Cana but almost all of them use the name anyways. In 1969 a group of American investors bought 30 miles of land. The land was just jungle with no roads and some small, fishing villages along the coast. But the beaches were beautiful with their white sand, coconut palms, crystal clear waters and protective coral reefs. One of the investors, a man named Frank Rainieri had a vision to build a resort without touching the area while offering a world class vacation. At the time the area was called Punta Borrachón (Drunken Pointland) but it was renamed Punta Cana. In 1971 the first hotel was built, Punta Cana Club. It could only hold 40 guests and had 10 cabins and a clubhouse. In 1978 the resort chain Club Med built another hotel, Club Med Punta Cana nearby. But the nearest town still took 6 hours to reach. So a new highway was built making it possible to reach the town in 30 minutes. In 1984, the Punta Cana International Airport was built. Without it Punta Cana wouldn’t be what it is today. In the first year the airport had 2,976 passengers; in 2009 it received 4 million. From then on more resorts sprung up and more roads, schools, water treatment, electricity, and recycling plants were all built.. Currently there are over 60 resorts in Punta Cana. The resorts,, provide employment for the local population.
