LEADERSHIP AT IT’S BEST THE 21 IRREFUTABLE LAWS OF LEADERSHIP BY JOHN C. MAXWELL LEADERSHIP AT IT’S BEST PROFESSOR VALERIE ROBINSON BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE

STUDY THE LAWS FOR YOUR SUCCESS – EACH DAY FOR APPROXIMATELY ½ HOUR See yourself getting closer to the top The 2nd – Seven (7) Laws of Leadership STUDY THE LAWS FOR YOUR SUCCESS – EACH DAY FOR APPROXIMATELY ½ HOUR

THE LAW OF INTUITION

LAW OF INTUITION 8. The Law of Intuition: The ability to follow your instincts. Leaders evaluate everything according to their leadership bias. They possess leadership intuition that informs and guides everything they do. They are readers of people, trends, situations and their resources. Those who naturally understand leadership Those who can be nurtured to understand leadership Those who will never understand leadership

LAW OF MAGNETISM 9. The Law of Magnetism: The ability to attract people who are like you. (Good students spend time with good students). The team is an extension of their leader’s personality. Leaders attract those who have similar qualities

LAW OF CONNECTION 10. The Law of Connection: It’s the ability to relate and connect with people. You move people to action by first moving them with emotion. (Opening up the lines of communication with your group, team or family). Connect with yourself Communicate with openness and sincerity Know your audience Live your message – Be transparent Go to where they are Focus on them (your followers), not yourself Believe in them Offer direction and hope

LAW OF THE INNER CIRCLE 11. The Law of the Inner Circle: The leader’s potential is determined by those closest to him or her. The leader finds greatness in the group. The leader helps their members, team or employees find it in themselves.

LAW OF IMPOWERMENT

LAW OF IMPOWERMENT 12. The Law of Empowerment: Secure leaders delegate power to others. It is becoming a secure leader who can give power away. One can make their organization more powerful. Example: (Henry Ford and the Model T). Don’t be afraid to empower others. Barriers to empowerment are: Desire for job security, what if I work myself out of a job by empowering others? Resistance to change Lack of self-worth

LAW OF THE PICTURE 13.  The Law of the Picture: People do what people see. You are an example and role models for others. It’s important to become conscious of what you say and do everyday. Good leaders are always conscious of the fact that they are setting the example and others are going to do what they do, for better or worse. Followers want to support a strong leader. The living picture they see in you as their leader produces energy, passion, and motivation to keep going. Top 6 characteristics of leaders: Lead by example Strong ethics or morals Knowledge of the business (project) Fairness Overall intelligence and competence Recognition of their employees

LAW OF BUY-IN 14. The Law of Buy-In: People will buy into the leader first and then the vision. In order to lead, people will believe in your character before they believe in the vision you have for the organization. For example … (Mahatma Gandhi) changed the people to have them buy into non-violence and civil disobedience to peaceful cooperation in India.
