Book Cover Design Can you judge a book by its cover?

THE COVER ART YOUR JOB AS AN ARTIST: Imagine that you are a graphic artist. YOU ARE GOING TO RECREATE YOUR BOOK COVER ART ON POSTER BOARD. YOUR ART DOESN’T HAVE TO BE AN EXACT REPLICA OF THE ACTUAL BOOK COVER BUT TRY TO INCLUDE AS MANY DETAILS AS POSSIBLE. BE SURE TO INCLUDE DETAILS SUCH AS: TITLE, AUTHOR, ANY CAPTIONS, ETC.

HOW TO BEGIN FIRST, STUDY YOUR BOOK COVER VISUALLY. BEFORE DRAWING, SEE IF YOU CAN BREAK DOWN ANY OF THE SUBJECT MATTER INTO BASIC SHAPES (MAKING IT EASIER TO DRAW). ON COPY PAPER, DO A PRACTICE SKETCH OF YOUR BOOK COVER. DO NOT INCLUDE EVERY TINY DETAIL. JUST WORK OUT THE MAIN COMPOSITION and sketch out anything you need practice on. ONCE YOU ARE CONFIDENT ABOUT YOUR SKETCH, YOU MAY BEGIN DRAWING YOUR BOOK COVER ONTO YOUR POSTER BOARD. *** USE PENCIL FIRST AND DRAW LIGHTLY. WHY DO WE DO THIS? CHOOSE YOUR MATERIALS WISELY. USE THE MEDIUM YOU WORK BEST IN (PAINT, MARKER, OIL PASTEL, ETC.).

GOOD COVER ART EXAMPLES: WHAT EMOTION DOES THIS PROVOKE IN YOU? WOULD YOU READ THIS BOOK BASED ON THE COVER OR TITLE?

1.CAN YOU TELL WHAT THIS BOOK MAY BE ABOUT BY THE COVER? 2.WHERE MIGHT THIS STORY TAKE PLACE?

Is the title of this book reflected in the cover art? Who can explain why?

I thought this was hauntingly beautiful. Say that 3 times!

WRITING PROMPT YOU HAVE EACH READ A BOOK AND WRITTEN A SUMMARY ABOUT YOUR BOOK OF CHOICE. I WILL SHARE THE COVER ART EXAMPLE I CREATED AFTER READING MY BOOK “TRICK OR TREAT” BY RICHIE TANKERSLEY CUSICK. ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I EXPECT OF YOU ARTISTICALLY, YOU WILL EACH PRESENT YOUR SUMMARY TO THE CLASS. KEEP IT SHORT BUT INFORMATIVE. WE WILL BEGIN THE ART WORK IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE SUMMARIES. I WILL WORK I HOPE YOU REALLY ENJOYED READING. I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU GUYS!
