next prev next What is Lync Windows Store app? A version of Lync designed for touchscreen PCs running Windows 8 and Windows RT. You can use the touch gestures, such as tap, pinch, stretch, slide, and swipe− to navigate the app, and send instant messages, make voice and video calls, or join Lync Meetings.

next prev next Installing Lync Tablet or Desktop Computer System Requirements Windows 8 Lync account on Lync Server 2010 CU5 (for general functionality) or Lync Server 2010 CU7 or later (for general functionality and joining a meeting from Lync Windows Store app) Install Location From the Windows 8 store, using the Search charm, search for Lync. next prev next Finding Lync on your computer After Lync is installed, it will be on your Windows Start screen. Use the Search charm to find it: Type Lync in the search text box and make sure Apps is selected as the search category. Select Lync from the search results to open the app.

next prev next Signing in Typically, Lync signs in automatically if you’ve logged on to your computer with your domain or Office 365 credentials. Note When you sign in for the first time on a Windows RT tablet, you will need to enter your sign-in address and password. When you sign in, you can select your sign-in status too. next prev next Switching between screens To go back one screen at a time, select the back button on the screen. To go back directly to the Lync home screen, swipe in from the top and select the HOME button.

nextprev Using the snapped view Rate it To keep an eye on your meetings and conversations while working in apps other than Lync, you can snap the Lync window to one side of the screen leaving the rest of the screen open for whatever else you’re working on. Swipe in from the top and curve toward the left or right to shrink the Lync window to a smaller size on that side. To go back to full screen from the side-by-side view, tap on the divider and slide it to the right or left.

nextprev Adding a contact You can add new contacts and organize them into new or existing groups. Your changes are automatically synchronized with the Lync contacts on all your devices. 1.Select the search button either on the Lync home screen or on the Contacts screen. 2.Type the name or phone number of the contact in the search text box. 3.Select the contact’s picture from the search results, and then select the button with the three dots. 4.Select either Add to Favorites or Add to Group, and select the group you want. 5.To create a new group, select Add to Group > Create New Group, type a name for the group and press Enter.

nextprev Sending an IM in text or ink 1. Select the Contacts tile on the Lync home screen, and select the contact you want. 2. Select the IM button. 3. To send text, type your message in the message box, and select Enter. 4. To send a message in ink, select the keyboard button at the far-right of the message box, and then select the pen button. Write or draw on the whiteboard, and then select the message icon, in the bottom-right corner of the whiteboard, to send your message.

nextprev Adding audio or video to a conversation To add audio or video when you’re in an IM conversation, select the Call or Video button at the bottom of the window. Important Before making an audio or video call, make sure you have a camera, computer speakers and mic, or a headset connected to your computer. Swipe in from the top to see a tile for each of your active conversations. Active conversations Call and Video buttons

nextprev Joining a Lync Meeting The Join Lync Meeting tile on the Lync home screen displays your upcoming Lync Meeting, just before it starts. Select the tile to join the meeting. If you want to join a different meeting or see details about the current and next day’s meetings, select the Meetings tile lower down on the Lync home screen. When you’re in the meeting, use the commands at the bottom of the window to add IM, video, and so on.

nextprev Checking your voice mail On the Lync home screen, the Voice mail tile displays the number of voice mail messages you haven’t listened to. Select the tile, and then select the specific voice mail message you want to listen to. Each message has a play button, a speed button, information about the length of the message and time sent, and name of the caller. Note This feature is available only if enabled for your Lync account and not available with Office 365.
