 Yes, the American alligator is indeed still living.

 American alligators live in the warm wetlands and swamps of Florida

 American alligator hunters killed too many American alligators for shoes, handbags, belts, and wallets

 Soon they were on the endangered species list because of Alligator hunters.  By 1960 the American alligator was in danger of becoming extinct  Many people wanted to protect the American alligator  The hunting of American alligators was banned so more American alligators were born and they were off the endangered species list.
