Unplug the power cord from the printer Open the rear output bin and pull out the extension This is step one. First remove the duplexer or dust cover from the rear of the printer. Then unplug the power cord. Exit

Step 1: Replacing the Fuser Remove the rear output bin and extension Bend the middle down slightly Release tab 1 Then release tab 2 The next step is to remove the rear output bin. This is a little tricky because the printer is fairly compact. Bend down in the middle of the tray so that the tab on the right side can be released and them swing it out slightly. Now the tab on the left side should be in position to remove. It has to clear the frame of the fuser on the left side. Exit

Step 1: Replacing the Fuser Release the fuser by turning the fuser levers so that they point up. Pull the fuser out of the printer Hold the back of the printer while pulling the fuser out. Do not pull on the black plastic flapper. The fuser is pretty much like any other HP fuser. It has two levers that lock it in place. When pulling it free make sure not to pull the black plastic flapper which is a diverter to direct paper to the top output bin. Exit

Step 1: Install the New Fuser Install the new fuser, left side first. Be sure to push it firmly into the printer. Lock the fuser in place by rotating the levers to the horizontal position. The levers will lock only if the fuser is installed all the way. Replace the rear output bin, left side first. Plug the power cord into the printer Replace the duplexer. Installation is the reverse of removal. When replacing the rear output bin, install the left side first. Otherwise, it will not clear the frame of the fuser. Exit

Step 2: Replacing the Transfer Roller Open the top cover and remove the toner cartridge. The transfer roller in underneath the toner cartridge. The transfer roller is accessed by removing the toner cartridge. Use the plastic tool that came with the maintenance kit to remove the roller. Insert the hook under the roller on the left side (near the blue gear) and pull up. The roller should pop up slightly. Now slide the roller to the left until it is free of the hole on the right. Then remove it from the printer. Exit

Step 2: Replacing the Transfer Roller Using the plastic tools that had been provided in the kit, pry the left end of the metal shaft up. Then slide the transfer roller to the left to remove. Exit

Step 2: Replacing the Transfer Roller Install the new transfer roller by sliding the right side in place first. Then snap the left side (with the gear) into place. NOTE: When installing the transfer roller, make sure the black collar on the left side is oriented properly, with the open end down. Install the right side of the roller first. Insert the shaft into the hole on the right side. Then snap the gear into place. Make sure that the black collar near the blue gear is pointed downward with the open end down. Exit

Step 3: Replacing the Tray 1 Pickup Roller Open tray 1 and locate the rubber pickup roller at the center of the tray. Pull the envelope entrance cover straight out of the printer. Using a flat blade screwdriver, pry open the blue latch on the pickup roller. Then lift out the pickup roller. There is a pickup roller in tray one. Open the tray 1 and remove the envelope entrance cover. This opens access to the pickup roller. Use a flate blade screwdriver to open the blue latch that locks the roller in place. Lift the roller out of the printer at this point. Exit

Reinstall the envelop entrance cover. Install the new roller. Make sure the pin in the roller aligns with the hole in the shaft. Then reinstall the envelop entrance cover. Exit

Step 4: Replacing the Feed Rollers Each paper tray has a roller located inside. Each feed roller is located inside the printer when the paper tray is removed. Remove the paper tray from the printer. Open the access door to the left of the roller. Pinch the blue latch on the roller and remove it by sliding it off the shaft. Exit

Step 4: Replacing the Feed Rollers Slide the new feed roller onto the shaft until it locks into place. Note: it is very important that the feed roller locks into place. Close the door until it locks in place Note: the door must be fully closed to avoid damaging the printer. Slide the new roller on to the shaft and lock it into place. Make sure it locks into place. And make sure the access door is fully closed. Exit

Step 5: Replacing the Feed Rollers in the Printer Remove the paper tray from the printer Pinch the blue latch on the left side of the feed roller and slide it off the shaft. It might be necessary to rotate the feed roller in order to pinch the latch. There is also a feed roller for each tray located inside the printer.
