Lessons from a Vacation

 All need times of rest, relaxation, and renewal (Mark 6:30-32).  Yet, whether at work or play, at home or away, we should continually remember and reflect upon the Word of God (Deut. 6:4-9; Josh. 1:8-9).  All need times of rest, relaxation, and renewal (Mark 6:30-32).  Yet, whether at work or play, at home or away, we should continually remember and reflect upon the Word of God (Deut. 6:4-9; Josh. 1:8-9).

Physical Family  Association with our physical family is important. Children are great blessings, and grandchildren are precious gifts from above (Psa. 128:1-6).  Consider the example of Jacob/Israel, who was overcome with sadness when he thought Joseph was dead (Gen. 37:29-35), but years afterwards, experienced great joy in seeing and blessing his grandsons (Gen. 48:1-12).  Association with our physical family is important. Physical Family  Let us be mindful of the example we set.  The consequences of sin are oft long-lasting, affecting both the present and future generations (Exod. 34:1-9, esp. vs. 6-7).  In the same way, the influence of a faithful life may be felt for generations (Psa. 103:15- 18).  Let us be mindful of the example we set.  The consequences of sin are oft long-lasting, affecting both the present and future generations (Exod. 34:1-9, esp. vs. 6-7).  In the same way, the influence of a faithful life may be felt for generations (Psa. 103:15- 18).

Spiritual Family  Association with our spiritual family is also important. On repeated occasions, Paul expressed his love for the brethren, saying “I long to see you …” (Rom. 1:9-12; Phil. 1:6-11).  Let us seek to cultivate a close and personal relationship with our brethren (Phil. 2:19-30).  Association with our spiritual family is also important. Conclusion  Let us apply Biblical principles to our various relationships, seeking to encourage and exhort our physical and spiritual families, seeking their building up rather than their tearing down (2 Cor. 13:5-14).  Are you a member of God’s family? If not, you are missing the greatest of relationships (Rom. 8:14-17).  Let us apply Biblical principles to our various relationships, seeking to encourage and exhort our physical and spiritual families, seeking their building up rather than their tearing down (2 Cor. 13:5-14).  Are you a member of God’s family?
