Applied Research Center for Computer Networking GENI, we be of one blood

12 November 2009 “We should complete the development of proposals to establish in Russia a powerful research and development center that would focus on the support of all areas.” “An attractive environment for the work of leading scientists, engineers, designers, programmers, managers and financiers would be formed there. In addition, new competitive technologies in the global market would be created there” Dmitry Medvedev President of Russia

SKOLKOVO Mission

Priorities ARCCN Mission: to develop and distribute Software Defined Networking tools and technologies to create SDN deployments in R&E networks for the benefit of the larger R&E community to allow researchers to seamlessly transition SDN network control and management concepts from prototype to emulation to deployments in local and even national test beds ARCCN is a member of SKOLKOVO project (IT cluster)

Applied Research Center for Computer Networking (Education)

University Consortium : Main goals: To promote the SDN segment deploying in the scientific and educational environment of Russia; To form SDN research community at Russian universities in collaboration with branch ministries, enterprises and development institutions. Main tools: To create SDN-network segments in the Russian Universities To include SDN courses in the compulsory syllabuses in universities, project partners; To lay down relevant topics for Ph.D studies; To provide opportunity for Science Experiment with real equipment.

Applied Research Center for Computer Networking (Industry)

Current research projects for Industry Research and development on OpenFlow switch architecture on Intel Platform using Intel Data Plane Development Kit Development of security technology for payment transactions via cellphones from unauthorized access Resource usage efficiency increasing methods for data centers based on the storage virtualization Development of pilot segment cloud platform for data centers based on SDN

Main research and deployment activities SDN networks: design, configuration, analysis, simulation, and configuration tools. SDN networks management: tools for describing network resources, their abstraction and implementation, networking and distributed resources virtualization. The use of SDN technology in various application areas: Data Center, Storage Area Network (SAN), corporate networks, network operators and service providers, wireless networks, home networks, informational security. Demonstrate the capabilities and benefits of using SDN technology to manage modern computer networks.

Current Activities Summer and Autumn SDN Schools for students, researchers & engineers in collaboration with ON Lab (Stanford, Berkley) >40 participants Open Lectures about SDN/OpenFlow with Nick McKeown, Scott Shenker and Russian scientists and experts > 600 participants offline & > 2000 participants online

ARCCN Today 20 engineers: 9 Ph.D., 9 Ph.D. students; Cooperation with 11 Russian universities and research centers; Develop first Russian SDN-network segment; Develop special education program for engineers and researchers in collaboration with ON.Lab; Contracts for industrial research

Connectivity 2012/2013 Initiative of NFS and Russian Ministry of Education and Science to support cooperation US Universities & Russian Universities within GENI

Cooperation with GENI: Proposals Developing testbed and benchmarks for testing SDN controllers Creating a pool of applications for controllers implementing interesting features. Including implementation of current network protocols on top of SDN. Open source. General protocol to provide direct communication between the distributed application and the network it uses Building of a distributed real-time simulation environment over SDN network Controller as an Open System Methodology for SDN simulator assessment and comparison SDN network intersegment traffic research. Intersegment SDN network protocol development Research collaboration proposal on network security with SDN Research possible vulnerabilities in SDN and/or OF Software tools

Cooperation with GENI Joint research of Russian & US universities with the support from NSF and Russian Ministry of Science within GENI We invite GENI Engineering Conferences & GENI Speaking Engagements to host in Russia GENI members are especially welcome to First specialized international conference for computer networking in Russia (fee free) Russian & US students/researchers exchange for an internship or work for a couple of months

Networking 2013 What: First specialized international conference for computer networks in Russia Where: Moscow State University, Russia Technical Program: Distinguished Lecturers Workshop Program Invited Position Talks Technical Symposia Keynote and Plenary Talks GENI members are especially welcome! (fee free)
