My Short term Goal for this year would be to pass grade 9 and to have good marks in my classes for the rest of this year and next year.

My Midrange Goal for the next 4 years would be to get apart time job, graduate, and get into university.

My Long-range Goal for my next 10 years would be to have a good life, happy family, and to be successful and work in a job that I love!

Types of Architects Technical Architecture - refers to the structured process of designing and building a Systems architecture, with focus on the users' and sponsors' view of the environment. Architect - is the activity of designing and constructing buildings and other physical structures, primarily done to provide socially purposeful shelter Landscape Architect - is the art, planning, design, management, preservation and rehabilitation of the land and the design of human-made constructs.

Career The career I chose was an Architect. They are involved in everything from the construction of huge office complexes to the renovation of small houses. Architects typically start by producing drawings or sketches for new buildings or for the renovation of old buildings. Often these designs include precise descriptions of the materials to be used in the construction, as well as the necessary mechanical, electrical, and structural specifications.

Grade 11 courses: English Mathematics Probability & Statistics Physics Social Studies Visual Arts Computers Drafting & Design Grade 12 courses: English Algebra & Geometry Calculus Physics Social Studies Visual Arts Computers Drafting & Design

Other Suggested Qualifications Architects need to be imaginative, creative, and able to draw well. They should be comfortable with math and computers, especially CAD (computer- aided design). Good oral and written communication skills are also important.

Post Secondary Education To become a licensed architect, you need to obtain three key qualifications: education, work experience, and a passing grade on professional examinations. You can also become an architect by enrolling in an apprenticeship-style program with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. This involves approximately 8 years of work with a licensed architect. Once you have an architecture degree, you have get certified by the province you work in. Certification requirements vary from province to province, but all include working for about 3 years under the supervision of a licensed architect and passing a series of professional examinations.

Years of Schooling Level 1 – Undergraduate Degree -4 years Level 2 – Intern - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture -2 years Level 3 - Registered Architect - At least 3 years of experience as an intern -Successful completion of the architect registration exam Level 4 - Partner in Architectural Firm -Management experience

Courses Some courses you would be taking if you wanted to become an architect are: Drawing as Making - Introduction to drawing as an "act of construction." Conventions and techniques of freehand drawing are utilized to explore graphic, optical, perceptual, mental and verbal images. Gen. History of Architecture - Provides a chronological survey of architectural history from the origins of Western civilization until the present. Structural Concepts Architecture 1 - Study of loading conditions, systems of forces and conditions of equilibrium for two and three dimensional structures. Lighting & Acoustics - Principles and methodologies associated with acoustics, natural and artificial lighting in environmental design are examined within the context of appropriate case studies.

Job Outlook Employment of landscape architects is expected to increase faster then the average for all occupations through the year In addition to growth, the need to replace landscape architects who retire or leave the labor force will produce some additional job openings. There will be competition for entry-level jobs. The number of applicants often exceeds the number of available jobs.

Yearly Salary Range Level 1 – Intern EARNINGS : $30,000 to $40,000 a year Level 2 - Registered Architect EARNINGS : $35,000 to $70,000 a year Level 3 - Partner in Architectural Firm EARNINGS: $60,000 to $105,000 a year

Interests Some things you should be interested in to do this as a career are math, working on computers, drawing, designing.

Preparing for your career in senior year Volunteer work is good to do to be able to get scholarship that can help you with your funds while you are in university or college. The advantage of doing volunteer work before you enter the work force is that you have had a chance to do work and meet people and make mistakes and learn from them. Some places you could volunteer is with the communities by helping with community events.

Why did you choose this job? Because of his exposure to different cultures and countries is part of the reason that he went into the field of architecture.

What characteristics do you need to have or be interested in to be successful in this job? Persistent and persuasive Artistic Logical Team players Strong worker

How well do you like your job, rate from 1 to 10? And explain. He said he would rate his job a 8 because it is a challenging job, but also it is very gratifying. Also I enjoy what I get to do.

What is your salary range per year? His yearly salary range is about 65,000.

What do you do in your job? He is an Project Architect. His responsibilities include designing, producing presentation materials, developing project information, producing planning drawings, monitoring of projects for clients and more.

What is your favorite part of your job? His favorite part of the job was just the designing and working with new people and learning more all the time.

Where do you work in an office, in your home, Outdoors? He works in the office mostly on occasion he goes to homes of clients.

How many hours do you work? Usually 7 to 8 hours a day, 5 days and week.

What are some of the hardest parts of your job? He said he is often confronted with challenges that deal with conflicting requirements. For example, budgets can be hard to meet a client’s needs. Often, a compromise has to be made, to allow for changes in funding or materials.

Would you ever have an internship? Yes, I would so that the younger people who are interested in this career could have a chance to try it our before they get further into it, to know what it is like.
