Clinical Psychologist Applied Research Project

$$$$  Median wages = $68,000 US  New York = $80,000 -7,100 = 72,900  North Carolina = $55,000 -3,900 = 51,100

Living  NYC- Rent $1,200 per month = $14,000  Benefits… public transportation is cheap… $30 per month (also no car or car insurance)  Groceries $300 per month  Haircut & Color - $300 every 3 months  Winston Salem- Rent $600 per month = $7200  Gas is also cheap but using more of it $50 per month (car insurance $35 per month)  Groceries $200 per month  Haircut & Color - $150 every 3 months

Graduate School? – Very Necessary  Starting salary around $45,000  Almost always an advanced degree is needed to be hired  Masters vs. PhD  Clinical psychologist with PhD. -70,000  Clinical psychologist with Masters – 70,000  Professor – 70,000 with advanced degree  School Counselor – 58,000 with MA  School Counselor – Not possible without at least a masters  Genetics counselor - $75,000 wow! Inform families on genetic disorders, but often a dual degree in genetics and counseling is needed  Forensic psychologist – $68,000 – very cool, but knowledge of psychology and criminal justice is needed which means more time devoted to education.

How to proceed?  GRADUATE SCHOOL IS A MUST  Not a huge difference btw masters and PhD, but to be a therapist, a PhD is a better option.  Although living in Winston is all around cheaper, you can make more money as a clinical psychologist in NYC.  Also, my family is in NYC, so it makes a lot of sense to go home!
