BAJA : An Overview Within just one year of its inception, BAJA is arguably one among the nations elite engineering competitions. Under the patronage of SAE India, BAJA has scaled the zeniths of enthusiasm and innovation as 27 teams participated in the very first year. The competition involves participating teams to design, construct, market and race an All Terrain Vehicle which will be put to rigorous trials on par with the international standards.

BAJA CREDENTIALS BAJA 2007 saw a participation of about 400 students after selections in spite of it being the very first year. The first BAJA was held under the tutelage of Pawan Goenka , Ex-President, SAEINDIA . The LGA 280, 9 HP engine for all participating vehicles was given by Lombardini India Pvt Ltd. The transmission for all the vehicles was supplied by Mahindra.

BAJA MJCET MJCET has a profound reputation of actively competing in world class competitions from the past two decades. MJCET was the first and the only team to be selected for BAJA last year from AP. The team was sponsored by Satyam Venture Engineering Services. The students from MJCET were placed in reputed companies like ITW CHEMIN , TVS, NATRIP and SAE INDIA.

ACCOLADES FOR TEAM MJCET TEAM MJCET bagged the SECOND PRIZE in hill climb event, a trophy and a cash award of Rs 40,000/- . Overall Rank 14 out of the 27 participating teams all over the country. One of the 18 teams to make it to the endurance tests.

The NEXT STEP: BAJA 2009 Pic of one of our seminars here (Haroon ) A proficient team of twenty members had been screened by the faculty advisor & the old team members. The team made its mark by getting selected in the next BAJA-09. The team had started improvising the old BAJA vehicle and designing the new one in. Several new designs and innovations are in the process to get the best outcome.

IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE BY THE NEW TEAM The team divided itself into different sub teams each catering to different perspectives like designing, braking, transmission etc to name a few. ROLL CAGE: The roll cage is being improved in several aspects. Changes are being made in the length and height for better maneuverability and optimizing effectiveness. BRAKES :The drum brakes are now being replaced by new disc brakes. STEERING: Improvisation of the mechanism would help in better navigation.

ABOUT MJCET MJCET is one of the best institute for mechanical engineering across the state. Mohd Hassan Raza of MJCET has been selected as one among the ten SAE INDIA Student Executive Council members. Akshay Bharadwaj was offered the role of Executive director by SAE India. MJCET has been sponsored by the likes of Ford, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Suzuki in the past. The SAE chapter of MJCET conducted CARS N BOTS, a National Level Technical Symposium in September 2006.
