AR = Higher Test Scores “Active Reading” “Active Reading”

We teach students to read

AR turns them into “readers”

We teach them decoding skills

We teach them phonics

We have technology programs that support learning these skills

We have Intervention So why do we still have so many students at the end of the year not reading on grade level?

Reading Block is 2 hrs but children are only reading 8 minutes per day on average

Average time spent reading by grade level

Reading goals are set using the lowest amount of time spent reading on the goal setting chart, 20 minutes per day. Reading goals are set using the lowest amount of time spent reading on the goal setting chart, 20 minutes per day.

16% of our students are achieving their goal. The average time spent reading by our students is 8 min per day 16% of our students are achieving their goal. The average time spent reading by our students is 8 min per day

Are you detecting a disconnect?

Support quizzing! It’s all about the data!

Research says: Reading + AR Quizzing = Successful readers

AR Goal Achiever Increases over Past 3 Years

Our own data confirms AR is consistently creating readers! Students scoring 2 nd graders scoring 7 th grade 4 th & 5 th graders scoring 12 th grade Because they are reading! We have students in the 100 point club 2 years in a row!

AR works teaching reading quizzing

Mission …To enable students to become confident, self- directed, life-long learners

Readers = confident, self- directed, life-long learners

Active Reading

Test scores soar

AR Does a focus on AR support our mission? Does a focus on AR support our beliefs? Does a focus on AR increase test scores? How have teachers who are successful in AR accomplished this? Will you support your students in AR reading and quizzing?

What do you think?
