4 The Missouri Green Jobs survey is the first survey of Missouri employers that quantifies the number of green jobs in the state. Missouri defines green jobs as jobs directly involved in generating or supporting a firm’s green-related products or services.

5 Green Economy – Includes industries that contribute to at least one of the following: The conservation of energy (energy efficiency) The creation of renewable energy Organic food production The reduction (or elimination) of the direct negative impacts a product, company, or individual may have on the environment The reduction (or elimination) of the direct negative impacts the environment may have on an individual Research and development that goes to supporting any of the aforementioned functions of a green job

6 Green Jobs – Primary occupations engaged in generating a firm’s green-related products or services. Green Industries – A detailed industry that is likely to contain firms that produce parts, components, products, or services related to the green economy. Industries and firms were classified as green-related based on their primary product or service; not based on whether they were taking internal steps to use less energy or be more environmentally responsible.

8 Missouri boasts 131,103 total green jobs—both direct and support positions—among employers, making up 4.8% of total employment in the state.

16 US Department of Labor - Employment and Training Administration Missouri Award = $1,227, Improve the level of information about green jobs available to job seekers who are most disadvantaged in the current economy and to new career seekers 2. Inform training providers of the critical skills that job seekers need to be successful in a green opportunity career 3. Determine skills gaps to help education providers develop curriculum that meets the needs of Missouri’s green businesses

17 Green Industry Survey and Report - Assess skills gaps, market demand, supply chain, and cross industry opportunities Green Occupation Projections - Develop updated industry/occupational projections based on primary data collection Rapid Response Career Guidance Publications - Provide job seekers with printed green opportunity career flyers Green Pathways Career Guide and Related Publications - Step- by-step guide to green opportunity careers with assessment, skills, and training information Enhanced Career Explorer Tool - Web-based job exploration system updated with dynamic interface and green tools
