Nursing values Respect and empathy are among the vital values that are expected of nurses during nursing care. (Brunei Code of Professional Conduct for Registered Nurses and Midwives in Brunei Darussalam 2010 ,The American Nurses Association 2001, Royal College of Nursing, United Kingdom 2003) Caring encompasses empathy for and connection with people (Fahrenwald et al 2005). Nursing educators today are faced with challenge on how to instill these nursing values in student nurses (Cook and Cullen 2003).
