Climate Stewardship Project Sabrina, Ashley, Jessica and Amy Pascack Hills High School, Montvale, New Jersey, USA Teacher: Ms. Natalie Macke Trillium Learning Global 21 st Century Schools Project

About Us Pascack Hills High School Montvale, New Jersey We are 10th grade students currently studying chemistry with Ms. Macke. Our school has a 1:1 laptop program. We are starting our independent science research project. Our Team Amy Ashley Jessica Sabrina

Team's Purpose Learning about climate science and climate change issues by completing a Climate Stewardship Project. Competing in an nationally recognized competition to propose, research and complete a project that will benefit the environment.

About the Competition Siemens We Can Change The World Step #1: Identify issue in environment of concern More and more energy is being used by electronic devices such as laptops and cellphones. At our school, electrical energy is created from burning fossil fuels at a local power plant. Therefore, learning with technology contributes to greenhouse gases. The increased amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has been linked to the Earth's warming climate.

About the Competition Siemens We Can Change The World Step #2: Propose a change that will make a difference. We want to create a solar powered charging station in our school. This station will allow students to charge their personal electronics and laptops using renewable energy.

About the Competition Siemens We Can Change The World Step #3:Determine if the change can be replicated in different schools, states and countries. Would charging stations be useful in your school?

Questions for You How many students are in your school? Does each student use a laptop computer at school? Are students allowed to charge their laptops in school? Do student use personal electronics at school? Where do the students usually charge their laptops or personal electronics? Do you think that there is a need for solar powered charging stations in your school? Please help us prepare for the competition by answering the following questions :
