AHPS Webpage Enhancements Phase X Parts A and B Dan Matusiewicz National Hydrologic Information Dissemination Services Leader Analyze, Forecast, and Support Office Forecast Services Division Water Resources Services Branch

Phase X Part A implemented on November 18, 2014

Reproduced the AHPS national, regional, and WFO HSA maps in a zoom-able ESRI Interface Users can employ ESRI’s full pan and zoom capabilities at the national, regional, and WFO HSA scales. Clicking anywhere on the national map takes users to the appropriate WFO map.

Enabled HPMs and the Regions to modify hydronotes for all or multiple gages HPMs used to have to go to each individual gage’s Gauge Configuration Page to define up to 2 hydronotes. Now it’s faster and easier to make changes to hydronotes for all or multiple gages. – For example, if a RFC switches to using 2 days of QPF in its hydrologic models, HPMs can select all or multiple locations where they want new hydronotes such as “2 days of QPF being used to produce this river forecast” to replace current hydronotes.

Implemented an AHPS CMS out-of- service feature Insures that all briefing pages (e.g., SR RFC decision support page, etc.) display the same version of hydrograph. Images in the resources/hydrographs directory are the same as those in the directories shown below.

Enabled users to view a site’s hydrograph when mousing over its location on a regional map Users used to see a five character ID and river name when mousing over a site and had to click on the site to bring up its hydrograph. Mousing over a site now displays the location’s associated hydrograph.

Provided long-range river flood risk in shapefile and KMZ formats Long-range river flood risk data used to be only available in.csv format. Having this data available in Shapefile and KMZ formats now makes it easier for stakeholders to use the data in web mapping applications, including Google, Bing, OpenStreet, and ESRI maps.

Enabled users to view recent crests Recent flood crests, even when not of historical magnitude (e.g., top 10), can be useful in communicating impacts from current or forecast flooding. A list of recent crests now appears between historical crests and low water records.

Provided maximum forecast flood category files for all available time increments Previously only the maximum forecast flood category through day 2 files were available. Maximum forecast flood category shapefiles and KMZ files for all available time increments (1-day, 2- day, 3-day, 4-day, 5-day, 6- day, 7-day, 8-day, 9-day, and entire period) are now available by going to the WFO scale (Download Tab).

Enabled users to view the normal pool level on the hydrograph HPMs can now define the Normal Pool in the AHPS CMS.

Enabled users to identify sites with no flood stage and sites that are at or below their low water threshold Old National and WFO Map Legends Modify the national and regional map legend. New National and WFO Map Legends New additions to the map legend

Enabled users to identify sites that are near or above flood stage or at or below their low water threshold by modifying the national and regional map drop-down menus PreviousCurrent New drop-down menu selections

Phase X Part B will be implemented on August 4, 2015

Create a New Quantitative Precipitation Estimates (QPE) Interface Before August 4, 2015On and after August 4, 2015

Create a new Flood Inundation Mapping (FIM) interface

Add a new diamond gauge icon to the maps and map legends Before August 4, 2015 On or After August 4, 2015 Diamonds denote data points where only observations are available. Squares denote forecast points where observations and deterministic forecasts are available. Squares indicate that observations or deterministic forecasts or both are available. There is no way to determine if the site is a data point or forecast point.

Create a new National River Location Database (NRLDB) Report Generator New NRLDB Report Generator option available in the Options drop-down menu AHPS CMS

Make 6 new FIM libraries available Big Blue River near Manhattan, KS (MNTK1) Rock River near Afton, WI (AFTW3) Rock River at Fort Atkinson, WI (FATW3) Rock River at Jefferson, WI (JFFW3) Rock River at Lake Koshkonong, WI (NVLW3) Rock River at Watertown, WI (WATW3)

Depict experimental short-term probabilistic guidance New drop-down menu option

How Can You Submit New AHPS Webpage Requirements? If you are within the NWS, fill out a Hydrologic Requirements Input Form available at: urvey.php?sid=18 urvey.php?sid=18 If you are outside of the NWS, go to water.weather.gov and click on the AHPS Feedback link. water.weather.gov
