Child Slavery in India By Stefano,Tyson,Kyran
India Children all around the world are in slavery but we are going to focus on India because in India there are believed to be over 12 million kids just like you in slavery. Here is a bit about India. India is located in Southern Asia, and is often referred to as a “mini-continent”.

Products used in everyday life Footwear Garments Silk fabric Silk thread The most used product made in India by children are probably garments so we are going to focus on that product.
Garments Garments is another name for clothing, from pants to shirts to socks. Clothing is used by everyone around the world; no person in the world lives without clothes. We all use clothes in everyday life, it’s a basic necessity.
Reasons for forced labour A child would be forced to work because their families must lend money, gold and other valuables in order to pay off a debt, and in turn the children work for the people the family gave money to. Another reason would be poverty. A child’s pay could mean 25-40% of the houses’ income, and is crucial to the members of the household surviving. A lack of schools and a quality education is another driving force behind child labor. In communities, especially rural areas where up to 70% of children working is spread wide, they don’t have adequate schools, and when schools are available, they are too far, hard to reach, the quality of the education is poor, and unaffordable, leaving parents to ponder if the school is really worth it, and that leaves the children to become child workers.
Child Labour Story Jivaj, an Indian child worker, could remember conditions in a garment sweatshop, “If any of us cried we would be hit with a rubber pipe. Some of the boys had oily cloths stuffed in their mouths as punishment.” This made us feel sad that children had to endure these conditions and types of punishment. This is similar to Iqbal because in the book, when the kids cried, they would be chained to a loom for the entire work day every day for a period of time, along with heading to the tomb, a small empty outdoor room where the child gets no food or water for the time they are in there.
How to help stop child labour Something you could do to help stop child labour is to donate to foundations whose goal is to stop child labour. You may not realize it, but your donation could be the difference between a kid living in a factory for the rest of his childhood or the child’s freedom. You can also stop purchasing products made using child labour. For example, if Walmart uses child workers to create their products, you can stop yourself and others from buying the item, no matter the price.
