I AM COMING LORD Number 300

Acts 26:18 Defines The Lord’s Invitation

Acts 26:17-18 delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom I send thee, to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.

THE LORD’S INVITATION Call to know Truth Call to Obey Call to Sanctification 4 Gospel Preaching Acts 26:18 (16- 20)

OPEN THEIR EYES (A CALL TO KNOW TRUTH) The invitation to come to Jesus to be saved is an invitation to come to a knowledge of the truth, John 8:31-32; 1 Timothy 2:3-4 5 Acts 26:18

THAT THEY MAY TURN (CALL TO CONVERSION) From darkness to light, Ephesians 4:17-19 Expose sin and error with the light of the gospel, Ps 119:105; 1 Peter 2:9 From the power of Satan to God, Romans 6:23; Hebrews 2:14-15 Solution to problem of your sin: Jesus Christ! 6 Acts 26:18

SANCTIFICATION (BY FAITH IN CHRIST) Obtain life from the death of sin by faith in Christ, Romans 1:16-17 (Galatians 2:16) The call to holy living, Romans 6:17-22 Responsibility after conversion: Take the yoke of Christ, Matthew 11:29-30 Christianity is a sacrificial, obedient way of life, Galatians 2:20; Luke 9: Acts 26:18

THE WORDS OF THE SONG … I hear Thy welcome voice, That calls me, Lord, to Thee, For cleansing in Thy precious blood That flowed on Calvary.

REFLECTING ON THE WORDS … 1. The first verse reminds us that God calls us, through the gospel – 2 Thessalonians 2:14 2. Romans 3:26 – his sacrifice reconciled justice and mercy of God, precious blood. 3. Chief among blessings is the remission of sins through His blood – Ephesians 1:7, our cleansing

THE WORDS OF THE SONG … Though coming weak and vile, Thou dost my strength assure; Thou dost my vileness fully cleanse, Till spotless all and pure.

REFLECTING ON THE WORDS … 1. The second verse tells us that we come to Jesus as we are (weak and sinful) – cf. Luke 5: Strength in Christ is assured – 1 Corinthian 10:13; Philippians 4:13 3. Jesus offers freedom from both the guilt of sin and the bondage of sin – Romans 8:1-2

THE WORDS OF THE SONG … 'Tis Jesus calls me on To perfect faith and love; To perfect hope, and peace and trust, For earth and heaven above.

REFLECTING ON THE WORDS … 1. The third verse describes our growth in Christ after coming to the Lord – cf. 2 Peter 3:18; 1: For we are not only to respond to His grace in conversion, but to bear fruit for God's glory as well – John 15:8 Galatians 5:22 3. Our service will be both on earth and in heaven above – cf. Revelation 2:25-27; 22:1-5

THE WORDS OF THE SONG … I am coming, Lord! Coming now to Thee! Wash me, cleanse me in the blood That flowed on Calvary!

REFLECTING ON THE WORDS … 1. The chorus expresses the appeal for cleansing one desires when they respond to the gospel 2. The cleansing comes as one is baptized into Christ a. For in baptism they are buried and crucified with Christ – Romans 6:3-8 b. In which their sins are washed away by the blood of Christ – cf. Acts 22:16 3. Thus baptism is for the remission of sins, and is an appeal for a good conscience a. As proclaimed by Peter on the day of Pentecost – Acts 2:38 b. As expounded by Peter in his first epistle – 1 Peter 3:21
