Poseidon By Kazim POSEIDON: THE GOD OF THE SEA OF TIDAL WAVES, AND OF EARTHQUAKES HE WAS OFTEN REPRESENTED AS HAVING THE TAIL OF A FISH AND ARMED WITH A TRIDENT AS POSEIDON-HIPPIOS, HE ALSO RULED HORSES. THE 8 TH CENTURY POET HESIOD TOLD MANY LEGENDS OF THE GOD. HE TELLS HOW ZEUS WAS POSEIDON AND HADES. TOGETHER THEY REBELLED AGAINST THE OLDER GODS AND CAST THEM OUT. ZEUS BECAME LORD OF HEAVEN AND EARTH POSEIDON BECAME GOD OF THE SEA AND HADES BECAME KING OF THE UNDERWORLD.

Poseidons Weapon IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY, ONE OF THE PRIMARY SYMBOLS OF THE SEA GOD POSEIDON WAS THE TRIDENT. AS HIS PERSONAL WEAPON, HE COULD USE IT TO CREATE THUNDERSTORMS AND STRONG TIDAL WAVES. IT WAS CREATED BY THE CYCLOPES AND GIVEN TO POSEIDON AS A GIFT AFTER HIS BROTHER ZEUS FREED THEM FROM TARTARUS. DURING THE CHALLENGE OF POSEIDON IN GOD OF WAR, KRATOS FINDS THIS MAGICAL TRIDENT WITHIN POSEIDON'S CHAMBER. WITH IT, HE CAN DIVE UNDERWATER, AND CAN SWIM AND BREATHE INFINITELY. THE TRIDENT THEN BECOMES A MUCH NEEDED ITEM TO TRAVERSE THE REST OF PANDORA'S TEMPLE. IN GOD OF WAR II, KRATOS HAS THE TRIDENT IN HIS POSSESSION AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE GAME, AND USES IT THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE ADVENTURE. KRATOS HOLDS POSSESSION OVER POSEIDON'S TRIDENT IN GOD OF WAR III, BUT NEEDS THE SOUL OF A GOD BEFORE HE CAN USE THE TRIDENT, AS THE RIVER STYX WOULD BE DEADLY TO MORTALS AND DEMIGODS ALIKE.

What Poseidon Wears… POSEIDON IS USUALLY SHOWN AS WEARING NOTHING AT ALL, OR POSSIBLY JUST A CROWN, ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES HE IS SHOWN WEARING A KIND OF BATTLE HELMET AND POSSIBLY A CLOAK. THOUGH OFTEN DEPICTED NAKED, HE ALSO WEARS CLOTHING TYPICAL OF ANCIENT GREECE, SUCH AS THE HIMATION OR THE CHITON. THESE WERE SIMPLY TUNICS OR PIECES OF FABRIC FOLDED AND DRAPED IN VARIOUS WAYS, SOMETIMES LONG AND SOMETIMES SHORT. NEARLY INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM ZEUS, ARTISTS PORTRAY HIM WITH A BROAD FACE, FULL HEAD OF WAVY HAIR AND A LONG CURLY BEARD. OCCASIONALLY, TO SET HIM APART AS GOD OF THE SEA, HE WEARS A CROWN OF SEAWEED. AS ONE OF THE MOST INTELLIGENT SEA ANIMALS, THE DOLPHIN SEEMS AN APPROPRIATE SYMBOL FOR THE SEA GOD. OCCASIONALLY, DOLPHINS PULL HIS CHARIOT INSTEAD OF HIPPOCAMPI, OR POSEIDON WILL BE SHOWN STANDING ON A DOLPHIN. POSEIDON OFTEN RIDES A CHARIOT PULLED BY HIPPOCAMPI, MYTHICAL CREATURES THAT ARE PART HORSE AND PART FISH. SOMETIMES, THEY ARE ALSO WINGED, AS AT THE FAMOUS TREVI FOUNTAIN IN ROMETHE TRIDENT, OR THREE-POINTED SPEAR, THROUGH WHICH HE COULD CHANNEL HIS POWER, EASILY DISTINGUISHES POSEIDON FROM THE OTHER GREEK GODS. WITH IT HE COULD COMMAND THE WAVES AND WIND AND CREATE EARTHQUAKES
