MJ2A Ch 6.5 – Percent Proportion

Bellwork Write each decimal or fraction and then express it as a percent:

Assignment Review Practice Skills workbook lesson 6.4

Before we begin…. Please take out your notebook and get ready to work… Continuing with the chapter theme of ratios and proportions…today we will look at the percent proportion… The percent proportion is used to determine what percent a number is of another number…

Objective 6.5 Students will solve problems using the percent proportion

Parts of the percent proportion In order to effectively use the percent proportion you must know the parts of the proportion and what they represent… So…let’s look at an example

Example 22 is what percent of 110? Percent proportion: In words:part=percent base100 In numbers22=P After you set up the proportion, cross multiply and solve algebraically…

Using the percent proportion The percent proportion can be used to find the base, part, or percent of a number Examples of what that looks like: To find the percent you might have a problem like this: 7 is what percent of 10? To find the part you might have a problem like this: What number is 70% of 10? To find the base you might have a problem like this: 7 is 70% of what number?

Your Turn In the notes section of your notebook write and solve the following: is what percent of 280? is 60% of what number? 3. What is 72.5% of 200?

Summary In the notes section of your notebook summarize the key concepts covered in today’s lesson Today we discussed:  The percent proportion  How do you set it up?  How do you solve it?

Assignment Text p. 291 #7 – 22 Reminder  This assignment is due tomorrow  I do not accept late assignments  You do not have to write each sentence. However, you must set up the percent proportion and show how you got your answer.
