I AGREE!! ME TOO!!

Lesson outcomes GRADE C – Explain what the law says about abortion by interpreting picture clues GRADE B – Express an opinion about when life begins GRADE A – Demonstrate an understanding of pro-choice and pro-life views on abortion by completing an exam question.

The main question when considering the issue of abortion is… When does life begin? Look at the following slides, then complete the worksheet provided.

When does LIFE begin? 0 WEEKS 40 WEEKS The baby leaves the mothers womb 23 WEEKS Foetus can survive outside the mother’s womb with medical help 22 WEEKS Foetus has eyelashes and eyebrows 8 WEEKS 13 WEEKS 4 WEEKS BIRTH CONCEPTION  The moment the sperm meets the egg. The HEART beats for the first time. Arms and legs begin to form. Foetus has its own fingerprints. Where do you stand?

When does life begin? It is important that you are able to give a clear reason for when you think life begins. “In my opinion life starts at …. weeks because…..”

Lesson outcomes GRADE C – Explain what the law says about abortion by interpreting picture clues GRADE B – Express an opinion about when life begins GRADE A – Demonstrate an understanding of pro-choice and pro-life views on abortion by completing an exam question.

Pro life or pro choice? There are two different ways of looking at abortion…. Pro life OR Pro choice

PRO LIFE People who believe that the child has a right to life. PRO CHOICE People who believe that the mother should be able to choose whether to have an abortion.

1)Read the different arguments on the printed sheet 2)Decide which arguments are pro-life and write pro-life next to them. 3)Write pro-choice next to the rest.

Your turn… Use the arguments you have just looked at to answer Q2 on p17 of your revision workbook. This is a (c) question so remember that you need FOUR points and FOUR examples. In this question the POINT will be what people think and the EXAMPLE will be why that reason is important to them/why they think that.

Lesson outcomes GRADE C – Explain what the law says about abortion by interpreting picture clues GRADE B – Express an opinion about when life begins GRADE A – Demonstrate an understanding of pro-choice and pro-life views on abortion by completing an exam question.
