Michigan Policy Michigan Virtual School (P.A. 230 of 2000) Support for online PD (P.A. 351 of 2004) Online learning experience (P.A. 123 & 124 of 2006) Seat Time Waivers (MDE) full-time cyber schools. (P.A. 205 of 2009) Lift cap on cyber schools (P.A. 129 of 2012) Expand authorizers of cyber schools (P.A. 129 of 2012) Michigan Virtual Learning Research Institute (P.A. 201 of 2013).

21F Definition: Online Course Credit or a grade Internet-connected Separated by time or location or both Michigan teaching certificate Instructional methods

Expand Online Learning Students in grades 5-12 are eligible to enroll in online courses. With parent consent, a district shall enroll a pupil in up to 2 online courses as requested by the pupil during an academic term. Select online courses from the educating district’s catalog or from the statewide catalog.

Reasons to Deny Enrollments 1. Pupil has already earned credits for the course 2. Online course cannot generate credits 3. Online course is inconsistent with pupil’s remaining graduation requirements or career interests

4. Does not possess the prerequisite knowledge or skills 5. Failed a previous online course in the same subject 6. The online course is of insufficient quality or rigor. (reasonable effort to find an alternative) Reasons to Deny Enrollments
