Wordpress SEO

Your Own Website If you want your own website, we have designed Wordpress website templates that you can purchase that have pretty much everything already set up for you. There’s an initial $40 sign up fee and a $21.99 fee per month, which covers the hosting, security, and maintenance. Go to for more info and to purchase.

Introduction What is SEO? SEO means Search Engine Optimization, which is a method of building traffic to a site by utilizing search engines such as Google. The better SEO strategy you use, the more traffic the search engines refer to your site. Everything that you do with your site, from the pages you create to the name of your posts and the keywords you use all affect your site’s SEO.

Getting Started: General Info How many posts should you create per week? Try to stick between 3-4 blog posts per week. – The more content, the higher the ranking of your site. How do you create a post? Go to your Wordpress Dashboard, hover over “Posts” and then click on “Add New.” How do you create a page? Go to your Dashboard, “Pages,” and then “Add New.” Posts have way more impact on SEO than pages.

Keywords The keywords that you use in your posts and pages have a HUGE effect on your SEO. What is a keyword or key phrase? A keyword or key phrase is a word or phrase that people will use to research content in the search engines. – Example: If someone wants to read a review about P90X, they will type in “P90X review” or “P90X reviews” in Google. Both of those are key phrases that people use quite often. When Google recognizes that you have used Keywords and related key words in your posts, they will rank you in the search engine for that specific keyword or key phrase.

Researching Keywords Before you create a post, it’s important that you do research to find the keywords or key phrases that are highly searched for with low competition. Go to Google and type in “Google Keyword Tool” and click on the “Keyword Tool: Google AdWords.” Next, type in the Keyword or Key Phrase that you were thinking about using, and then click “search.” You will then see your keyword along with related keywords (or phrases), as well as the level of competition and the monthly global search volume. – For example, “P90X reviews” is searched for almost 50,000 times per month.

Using Keywords I tend to use keywords or phrases that have between 1,000 and 50,000 monthly searches. – Anything below that is practically pointless and anything above that is very tough to get ranked with even if it has “low competition.” The “low competition” with higher searched keywords may in fact be high competition, but the ratio of people using the keywords to number of times it’s searched could be low. Your goal is to use 3-4 related keywords or key phrases in each post that you write.

Using Keywords: Title The title of the post carries the most importance in Google’s eyes. Once you determine the main keyword that you’re focusing on in the post, it’s important that you use that keyword or key phrase in the title of the post. – i.e. Josh Spencer P90X Review

Using Keywords: Body Once you determine your main keyword and 3-4 related keywords, you want to use them 2-5 times each in the post body. – It’s important, though, that your post isn’t choppy, and it should flow smoothly with the keywords that you’re using. Example: “After spending some time reading through some of the P90X reviews, I decided to purchase P90X and do the program myself. Now, 90 days later, I’m writing my own P90X review.” – Don’t use more than 1 of the same keyword or key phrase in the same paragraph.

Using Keywords: Body There are certain things that you can do with keywords or key phrases that will help Google recognize them. – (1) H1, H2, H3, etc. tags. Under the bold and italicized buttons in the Body tool box, you will see “paragraph” with a dropdown menu. In the dropdown you will see “Heading 1,” Heading 2,” “Heading 3,” etc. “Heading 1” or H1, carries the most importance, and then H2, H3, etc. Create a heading (H1, H2, etc.) in each post with a keyword in it. – (2) Bold/Italicize. When you bold or italicize a keyword or key phrase, it tells Google that the word or phrase is important.

Wordpress SEO Tool In the website template that we have set up for you, it will automatically come with a great SEO tool and plugin, the Wordpress SEO Tool. You will see this plugin at the bottom of every post that you create. General Tab – Focus Keyword: This is where you will put your main keyword or key phrase. – SEO Title: This is the title that you want to use for the search engines. Probably will be the same as your post title. Make sure keyword or phrase is used. – Meta Description: This is the description that people will see in the search engines. It’s very important that you use your main keyword or key phrase in this.

Wordpress SEO Tool Page Analysis Tab – This is an amazing feature that grades your SEO ability of each individual post and explains what and how to correct the things that you have done wrong. – Try to get every single button to green.

Picture SEO Even pictures can be optimized, and they need to be for Google Images. Whenever you upload or save a picture in your computer, make sure you use keywords or key phrases in the file name. – Example: Instead of “Josh Spencer Results 2,” I would name it “P90X Results Josh Spencer.” When you upload a picture to a post using the tiny camera button above the bold and italicize, you want the title and the alternate text to be keywords or phrases. – This way whenever someone searches for “P90X results” in images, for example, your picture will come up.

Back Links One of the most important parts in SEO is the back links. What are back links? They are links that link back to your site from another site. The higher ranked the referring site, the more credibility Google gives you. 2 types of back links: (1) One way, and (2) Two way. – One way back links are links to your site without you referring back to them. These have the highest credibility with Google. – 2 way back links occur when someone refers your site and you do the same back. Even though they aren’t as effective as one way links, they are still important.

Back Links Since we have such a large team, we can really help each other out by creating back links for one another. – Once you create your results or success story page, message me with the post link and I will add it to my site. You can then do the same for Melinda and *Important*- when you create a back link, you don’t just want to use the site, but name the link a keyword or key phrase. When Google sees a back link WITH a key word or key phrase, credibility goes through the roof. – Example: If I’m linking back to my results page on I wouldn’t just put my site, but I would name the link something like P90X Results Josh Spencer. Results Josh Spencer – To hyperlink the text, just type it, highlight it, and click on the little chain link in the tool box.

Internal Linking Google gives some credibility to internal linking as well. What is internal linking? When you’re writing a post, it’s where you link back to another post or page on your site. – For example, if you’re writing about Body Beast but talk about your P90X results, link P90X results back to your P90X results page on your site. Again, you want to make sure you use keywords or key phrases in the link, not just a random link. Use no more than 1 internal link per post.

Copied Content Google penalizes websites when they come across copied content, so make sure everything that you do is original. Don’t copy and paste any content from another site or even your own site if you have 2 of them.

Google Webmaster Tools It’s important that you keep track and manage your site’s SEO. Go to Add your site, and choose the “Meta” method for verification. Go back to your Wordpress Dashboard, and click on “SEO” directly under “Settings” in the left hand column. Click on “Dashboard” under “SEO,” and at the bottom of the page you will see “Webmaster Tools.” Under “Google Webmaster Tools” you are going to want to paste the meta code that Webmaster gave you. Save the settings, go back to Webmaster, and click “Verify.”

Google Webmaster Tools Once you verify, you will immediately have access to Webmaster. Next, you will need to submit your site to Google (after you have your site completely ready to launch). – it-url it-url

Submit Sitemaps Next, you will need to submit your sitemaps. In “Webmaster Tools,” click on “Sitemaps” under “Optimization” in the left hand column. Open up your Wordpress Dashboard in a new tab, click on “SEO” in the left hand column, “XML Sitemaps,” and then click on the “XML Sitemap” button to see your sitemaps. Enter each sitemap into Webmaster by clicking “Add/Test Sitemap.”
