Migration Plan The plan How will it be done? What does it mean for me? Why should I think this will work?

The Plan Plan is to migrate enterprise leased shares, websites, & Home Directory Service just before Thanksgiving – Less activity – Allows for completion and any fine-tuning before final exams

How will it be done? In the least disruptive way – Will need to move everything at the same time Frees old server names which avoids having to update client configurations – Will change Web servers access to read-only instead of shutting down access completely Sites will be accessible, just not updatable Database storage has already been migrated – Home Directory & leased shares are an exception: Read-only not an option—storage will not be accessible Access restored in rotation

What does it mean for me? Websites – Will be readable, but can’t update for about an hour – When logging into server afterwards, might get prompted for login password Home Directory – No access as as each volume’s copy is completed, then full access is restored Leased Shares – No access as individual leased shares’ copies are completed, then full access is restored

Why should I think this will work? At end of major storage refresh – Lots of experience with how it works – Already moved similar storage including: UVaCollab SHANTI’s WordPress & Confluence Services ITS Website University Library Web Services Large Web shares and selected leased storage
