ATAMSBLAST DIGITAL AGENDA 10 – 11 College Prep Chemistry KAUFFMAN28 – 29 NOVEMBER 2011 DO NOW: Calculate the molecular weight (formula weight and/or molar mass) of MnPO 4. How would the molecular weight change if it were Mn(PO 4 ) 2 ? Download the file “Chemistry Stoichiometry Flowchart.pdf” from the home page. Download the CST Periodic Table from the home page. California Standards: 3a: Balancing equations 3c: Avogadro’s # 3e: reactant/product calculations 3b: 1 mole 3d: MW and inter-conversions Essential Questions: Given an unbalanced chemical equation and the mass of one reactant to be used (or product to be formed), how do we determine what else is necessary? LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR STUDENTS: Given: Individual problems to solve, their notes, and their peers with the same problems the learner will: plan and implement a solution strategy to a complex stoichiometry problem by selecting appropriate steps, carrying out pre-requisite calculations, relating their current problem to past examples, and evaluating the correctness of their solution against peers by: Assessment: Work on mastery of unit quizzes.

Individual Instruction: Log in to your common login at Click on Brain Honey Open your chemistry course Under Chemistry Tool Kit, select Free Online Chemistry Textbook Do the select questions from Chapters 12 Sections 1 and 2; Chapters 13 Sections 1 and 2; and Chapter 14 Section 1: 12.1 Questions 1a, 1d, 1f, and 2 on page Questions 1a, 2a, 3a, 4a, 5a, and 6a page Questions 2a, 2b, and 3a on page Question 5 on page and 14.2 Questions 1 – 4 on page 298. Direct Instruction: Ask any questions you have from individual station. Tying it all together Collaborative Station: With your elbow partner (in groups of 2), pick one of the problems from the problem set. You will make a (minimum) seven slide PowerPoint in which you solve your problem using the six step problem solving procedure. The first slide should be your title slide with your names and the problem statement. If a given step does not fit on a single slide, you may use more than one slide. Each group will be presenting their solution to a problem on Wednesday. Read through your notes from direct instruction. Write down any questions you still have in the left hand side (narrow column) of your Cornell Notes. Ask your elbow mates for assistance in answering those questions. Write down the additional details/information they give you in the right hand side (wide side) of your notes. Write some Jeopardy questions over the notes for today. Examples: How does Mitosis differ from Meiosis? Write out a one paragraph summary of your notes from today. A template for the summary is posted on the biology home page. Share your summary with your elbow mates. Discuss and edit your summaries together.

Compass Learning Topics: You should have completed each of these last week AND you should have vocabulary done for each section. For each word listed as a vocabulary word, you need: the word, a textbook definition, your own definition, a picture, the word used properly in a sentence, and the Spanish translation (available from Chem 31 Oct – 2 Nov – Stoichiometry Chemical Equations/Formulae YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON THESE WORDS FOR NOW AS THEY ARE THE ONES YOU ARE EXPECTED TO KNOW FOR WEDNESDAY’S TEST Three ways to do: – Personal Science Dictionary Folder – Personal Science Dictionary PowerPoint – I-movie in pairs.
