W HY USE TECHNOLOGY IN P.E.? Using technology in the Phys Ed classroom is an excellent way to get students up and moving. Majority the students we are teaching are extremely tech oriented Most have computers and use modern technologies daily Bringing some of that technology into the classroom is a great way to interest students ing getting up and moving

P EDOMETERS Pedometers are instruments used to track the number of steps an individual takes. Why use pedometers? They challenge students They help students track progress Inexpensive Each pedometer can be bought in bulk for as low as $1.98 each off of healthpromotionsnow.com

P EDOMETERS How will they be used? Each student will be given a numbered pedometer at the beginning of each class At the end of class they will be collected by me I will provide them with the number of steps taken at the beginning of the following class This will cause students to try and beat their number each day Pedometers will be benefiting the students by: Putting a concrete number to their work Help them surpass previous goals Encouraging them to improve each day

W II F IT Wii Fit is a system that hooks up to the Wii that provides a fun way for students to be active Why use the Wii Fit? It will encourage students who don’t want to participate to give it a try Wii Fit provides an alternative way of exercising and moving A Wii and Wii Fit can be bought for a total of $210 off of techless.com If bought used the price is dropped by about half Only one or two systems will need to be bought

W II F IT How will the Wii Fit be used? Can be used as one of many stations Can be placed in an area during students recess/lunch time Wii Fit will benefit the students by: Showing them that exercising can be fun Encouraging them to get a Wii Fit and use it at home Getting students with more sedentary lifestyles moving

Compiles data from entire district Provides comparable numbers and trends in workouts and activity levels Utilizes data from out of school activity as well Gives students a private personalized view of what they are doing/need to do Pricing for the Fitnessgram software varies

F ITNESSGRAM How will the Fitnessgram software be used? In place of traditional fitness testing As a way to guide students towards a more healthy lifestyle in and out of school Fitnessgram will benefit the students by: Giving them a personalized idea of what they are doing/need to be doing Keeping workout result numbers private Allowing them to have a concrete number to show their parents

I POD An Ipod and Ipod player will be used to play music during activities in the physical education room Why use an Ipod player? Some students learn better through music Music will add energy to activities Music will encourage students to move more Only one has to be bought Many people already have Ipods so the teachers can be used If not one can be purchased used for under $60 from Amazon.com

Inexpensive Provides a number for students to try and top Shows results to students who want them Only enough for a class have to be bought An American Educational Product digital stopwatch can be bought for about $3.15

C ONCLUSION Utilizing technology familiar to students will encourage them to get up and move. Overall everything listed is relatively cheap because it only has to be bought once.
