Durham, North Carolina Durham, North Carolina was named after Dr. Bartlett Durham in the 1800’s. He was a well known and respected man who sold 4 important acres of land to the town so that they may build a railroad. Before the town was named after Dr. Durham, it was called Adshusheer. The Eno tribe was known to inhabit the area which served as a major trail in the Trading path throughout NC and VA.

Bethune-Cookman College Mary McCloud-Bethune Born near Mayesville, S.C. on July 10, 1875, on a rice and cotton farm, Mary Jane McLeod was the fifteenth of seventeen children. She is the founder of Bethune –Cookman College in Daytona, Florida, and The National Council for Negro Women. B.C.C still exists as a private institute for higher learning.
