Tooth decay By mohammed la marzouqi

What is tooth decay. Decay is the destruction of tooth structure. Decay occurs when plaque, the sticky substance that forms on teeth, combines with the sugars or starches of the foods that we eat. This produce acids that attack tooth enamel

How Does tooth Decay Happen Tooth decay is caused by certain types of bacteria that live in your mouth. When they attach themselves to the teeth and multiply in dental plaque, they can do damage. The bacteria feed on what you eat, especially sugars and cooked starch bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, etc. Within just a few minutes after you eat, or drink, the bacteria begin producing acids.

How to Prevent Tooth Decay Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a fluoride-containing toothpaste. Preferably, brush after each meal and especially before going to bed. Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exam.
