BUDGET ANALYST Chelsea Gilbertson

Basics of the Job What does a budget analyst do? –Budget analysts help public and private institutions organize their finances. They prepare budget reports and monitor institutional spending. They establish the relationships between resources and the organization's mission and functions. They analyze accounting reports, write budget justifications, research program activities, attend briefings on programs, and examine budgets and financial plans. Work environment –Budget analysts spend most of their time working independently, compiling and analyzing data and preparing budget proposals.

Salary and Job Outlook The lowest 10 percent earned less than $44,860, and the top 10 percent earned more than $101,660. Job outlook: –Employment of budget analysts is expected to grow 10 percent from 2010 to 2020, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Budget analysis is getting more complex as more types of data and statistical techniques become available.

Education Requirements Employers generally require budget analysts to have at least a bachelor's degree. Some employers may require candidates to have a master’s degree.

Technology’s Role in this Job Use of Technology –Budget analysts use basic technology, such as spreadsheets, charts, and presentation technology.
