One freezing cold day, Snowy, a white polar bear, had just finished having a huge dinner of fish. He laid down behind the snow wall, near the water’s edge and fell into a deep sleep. The sun rose slowly in the sky and its warmth fought its way through the mist to where Snowy was relaxing. The warmth of the sun put Snowy into a deeper and more comfortable sleep.

All around him the ice started to crack and float away. Even the area he was laying on formed a huge iceberg and started to float off towards the open sea.

When he woke up, he was a long way from home. Most of his iceberg had melted! What was he going to do ?

He saw a strange shore in the distance. There were lots of tall trees. His iceberg had nearly melted so all he could do was swim towards this land.

The beach was deserted so he walked into the trees. He saw something in the bushes that winked back at him. Hello, I’m Leo the Leopard said this strange cat. Hello, I’m Snowy, he said back. I’m lost and need to find my way back to the North Pole. Can you help me?

Yes I will help you, said Leo. We must ask the King for directions. He lives in the mountains across the plain. He will know the way. As they travel across a big open plain with strange tall trees, they come across a winding river.

Snowy was hungry so he dived into the river and caught some fish which he shared with Leo the Leopard. Leo the leopard then jumped onto Snowy’s back and Snowy swam across the river carrying Leo on his back.

Snowy then saw this strange creature with a very long neck feeding from the treetops. Hi, my name is Georgina the Giraffe. I will go with you to help Snowy find his way home to the North Pole. My long neck will help to see ahead. Everyone agreed and they all headed off together towards the mountains.

Another strange animal then came thundering up in a cloud of dust and loud trumpeting. Hi, I’m Dumbo the elephant. Can I come with you too? I know the way to the mountains and the king. This is a great idea, said Snowy. So they all continued on towards the mountains together.

As they finally reached the mountains, a booming roaring voice suddenly said…. I am Caesar the Lion, King of the animals. Why are you here? Snowy explains how he is lost and wants to go home to the ice and snow at the North Pole. That cold place is away from the sun, said the King. Follow me.

They all headed through the mountains away from the sun. On the other side of the mountains, the air was cold.

They came to the ocean and Caesar the lion pointed to a large iceberg in the sea. Climb onto that iceberg, he said to Snowy. It will take you home to the North Pole.

Snowy thanked all the animals for their help and dived into the ocean and swam out to the iceberg. Snowy felt very tired after his long walk and laid down on the comfortable ice. Snowy fell into a very deep sleep.

When he opened his eyes, he was home!! Snowy had a large grin on his face. He was happy to be home.
