COMPARE AND ORDER FRACTIONS GRADE 3

Hello, How are you doing? Today, we are going to start a new lesson on Comparing and Ordering Fractions.

Comparing and Ordering Comparing – Comparing is examining how two or more things are alike or different. Ordering – Ordering is arranging things or events.

Comparing and Ordering Different ways of Comparing and Ordering Using Fraction Models Using Number Line

Fraction Models To Compare 1/5 and 3/5 using Models. 1/5 is smaller than 3/5 Thus, 1/5 < 3/5

Number Line To compare 1/5 and 3/5 using Number Line. 1/5 is to the left of 3/5 Thus, 1/5 < 3/5 0 1/5 2/5 3/5 4/5 1

Compare Fractions with different denominators To Compare 1/3 and 1/2 1/3 is smaller than 1/2 1/3 < 1/2 1/2 1/3

Comparing 1/2 and 1/3 using a number line 1/2 is to the right of 1/3 1/2 > 1/3 0 1/2 2/2 0 1/3 2/3 3/3

Compare using >, < or = a) 3/10 6/10 b) 1/4 1/8 Answer- a) < b) >

Which is more: 1/3 of a Cookie or 1/4 of a cookie? Answer – 1/3 of a cookie
