Diamoneek McDougald Prd 10 The Bus Diamoneek McDougald Prd 10

Who invented the bus and why? Blaise Pascal was a mathematician, inventor, physicists, philosopher, author, and general savant. The first bus was invent in Paris, March, 1662. The system started with a 7 horse drawn vehicle. It was able to carry 6 to 8 passengers each. Five Penny Coaches were first popular but then wore off. Bus routes were out by 1675. Blaise Pascal

Did the invention change or evolve ever since it was invented? In 1830, Sir Goldworthy Gurney of Great Britain designed a large stagecoach driven by steam engine. Germany then, designed an eight passenger omnibus, driven by 4-horse power single cylinder in 1985.

Continue… Sight seeing companies brought buses to the US. Mack Trucks Inc., in 1904 had nominal seating capacity of 15 with a cylinder gasoline engine developing 36 horsepower 120 mph. In 1926, Fageol developed the first intergal-frame bus with engines mounted amidships manufacturers under the floor. Mack and Yellow Truck & Coach were the early manufacturers in the US. Both built gasoline electric models. The most popular transportation company is the MTA (Maryland Transit Administration).

MTA Over 20 years the MTA has commited some $72 billion to restore and improve the network. MTA buses, subways, trains provide 7.6 billion trips each year to New Yorkers. MTA bridges can carry nearly 300 million vehicles a year The vast network- North America’s largest- serves a population of 14.6 billion people in the 5,000 square mile fanning out from New York City through Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut.

MTA MTA Totals at a Glance* 2010 operating budget $13.4 billion Average weekday ridership 8,476,693 Rail and subway lines, and bus routes 422 Rail and subway cars 8,711 Buses 6,307 Track miles 2,047 Bus route miles 3,924 Rail and subway stations 734 Employees 69,114 * Financial data as of February 24, 2010; statistical data as of December 31, 2009

Areas of interaction Community and service Allows the handicapped and citizens get around to any destination. Examples: yellow school bus, greyhound, MTA, etc. Human Ingenuity Improving the look and the function on the bus Examples: putting new engines, lifts, new seats, etc.

How your invention evolved over time as people’s skills and needs evolved? The bus goes through improvements almost every year. The elderly and disable are able to ride the bus for $ .89 Children are able to catch the bus to get to school. The bus also gives jobs out for people. Able to help people get to their jobs
