Characters From the previous book  Kendra- an eighth grade girl who has been gifted special abilities by the fairies. Her powers include:  Able to see magically disguised creatures  Not affected by distracter spells  Can see in the dark  Seth- a sixth grade old boy who is Kendra’s little brother. His biggest weakness is his curiosity, which can get him into a lot of trouble.  Stan Sorensen- Current caretaker of Fablehaven, and grandfather of Kendra and Seth  Ruth Sorensen- Stan Sorenson’s wife, and grandmother of Kendra and Seth  Dale- a man who helps Stan do work in Fablehaven From this book  Sphinx- an avatar that helps people magical preserves. He always shows up in human form.  Errol Fisk- an agent for the Society of the Evening Star who tricks Seth in retrieving the frog demon.  Warren- Dale’s big brother. He has mysteriously turned into a mute albino  Coulter- an old friend of Stan who was hired to retrieve an artifact  Tanu- a potions master who was hired to retrieve an artifact  Vanessa- a women who is a trapper of mythical creatures and was hired to retrieve an artifact

Kendra and Seth are finishing up another year at school. The summer is coming and the time to relax and have fun is a couple days away. Then an evil goblin comes to their school disguised as a human, and only Kendra can see through the magical veil that confines humans from what really dwells in the real world.

Kendra and Seth get rid of the goblin by stealing a statue from the funeral home. They can tell that it is magical because it bites Seth. The statue is given to the goblin and the goblin leaves the school.

They go to Fablehaven, the magical preserve that their grandparents own because they were attacked by a dullison (a straw golem).

They find out that the statue contained a frog-like demon. The frog demon always consumes the person it bites. Seth was the first person the demon bit, so the demon will stop at nothing to devour Seth.

Fablehaven is one of the five secret preserves of the world that posses a secret artifact of great power. Three specialist have been hired to recover the artifact before the Society of the Evening Star does. A potions master, a trapper of mythical creature, and a master of ancient relics and artifacts. It all seemed fine until they realized that the society has a spy in the walls of Fablehaven. The spy and a mystery man named Christopher Vogel have released Olloch the Glutton (the frog demon) inside Fablehaven.
