Basic Geography

Hemispheres media/65/ FBFAB.gif media/65/ FBFAB.gif This is a picture showing the equator and prime meridian. This shows how the earth is divided into Northern and Southern Hemispheres and Eastern and Western Hemispheres.

This is a picture depicting the seasons. This is summer in the Southern Hemisphere and winter in the Northern Hemisphere

What kinds of things do we need to survive? Water Shelter Food What kinds of things affect our needs? Elevation Climate Plants and Animals Natural Resources

What do you notice about the map? Which areas would be hard to live in? Why? Do the same thing with the next map.

Now add people to it… In the desert areas, people had to move to find resources that were thinly dispersed. Most early civilizations developed near rivers. Farming began which led to settlements. Many landforms limited migration from area to area.
