The Romans

Ancient history The Romans arrived to Barcelona through the Mediterranean Sea by ship.

The Romans arrived to Barcelona in 264 aC They came from Italy ( Rome)

Their society was divided in social classes: -The high Roman class lived in big houses. They had an indoor courtyard. These houses were “domus”.

Domus

-The modest class lived in “insulas”, they were little buildings. -The Emperor lived in his temple.

Insula

In this period the Romans were an important army. For this reason they founded some cities for example: Barcino, Tarraco, Empòrion...

They had a lot of wars, but the most important were the Punicas Wars.

Nowadays Nowadays Spanish food influenced by the Romans is: - Offelae (pizza), salads, olives, cakes, a lot of shellfish, granades...

Spanish is a language that comes from Latin. In architecture we have Roman influence: roads, bridges and aqueducts.

Aqueduct

The Romans had a lot of entertainments that have influenced us like therms, theatres and amphitheatres.
