China and Africa’s Water Crisis Class: 723 By: Henry Palacios & Jared Bitong Class: 723 By: Henry Palacios & Jared Bitong

China’s Problem China’s water is being polluted everyday due to several spills of emergencies and emissions. The spills are usually oil and garbage with fluids that have bacteria. According to China’s State Environmental Protection Agency,60% of the rivers in China are suffering so much from pollution that it can not be a drinking resource at all. Some rural inhabitants does not have any water in their area. They have to walk to other areas who has access in water in their location.

China’s Water Supply Some rural inhabitants do not have any water in their area. They have to walk to other areas that have access to water in their location. Over hundreds of cities in China have water shortages. In the the North and West region of China, droughts have become regular. Even where places have large bodies of water, most of them are dirty. China does not have much rainfall either so they can not use rainfall to even help their family. Due to global warming, people in China have no idea whether it’s going to rain or not.

Africa’s Problem About $7.6 billion US dollars has been used on the rivers and aquifers in Africa by The Ministry Of Water Resources. Water problem has of late become of great concern to many African countries. At a recent conference attended by 1000 delegates in Addis Ababa, water experts said that Africa was facing a water crisis affecting 300 million people. Parts like Central and the East and West of Africa have existing water shortages. Other parts like North Africa, and the South suffer chronic water shortages.

Africa’s Water Supply Africa rarely has any clean water. People donate money to finding water points, but many have failed. Out of 55 wells, only 32 still works in Senegal’s Kaolack Region. Many wells in Africa stopped working because it needed repair. Many are still broken and only a few are fixed. Approximately 58% of water points in Ghana still needs to be repaired.

Ways to help Africa One way we can help Africa’s suffering on their water pollution is that we can give charity to Africa. The people there are trying their best to find wells their so it should be a big help we can help support them by donating money to them. Although donating is good, this might not be the best idea. This is not because some money are wasted finding a well and failed. A slightly safer way is that we can assist them helping getting more water an clean the dirty water. That way, some African might not need to walk three hours to get fresh water.

Ways to help China One way that we can help China improve their water scarcity is to donate. Chinese construction teams are working in an underground tunnel that will allow water to flow beneath a local highway. We can support that. Other ways is that we can conserve water. Conserving water is good because we can us the extra water on something important. We need all the water we need.
