Who were the two sides in the Korean war and which one did USA support? Claudia Veronica Diamond

Korea was divided into two parts North Korea and South Korea. North Korea was known as the Democratic People’s Republic, supported by the Soviets and South Korea was known as the Republic of Korea, supported by the United States. North Korea invaded South Korea. The United States and its allies stepped in to support South Korea. Soviet Union and North Korea wanted to take by force South Korea and make it communist.

Vietnam War The Vietnam war lasted from 1959 to It was fought between South Vietnam and North Vietnam. South Vietnam was supported by the United States and its allies. North Vietnam was communist so it was supported by the Soviets and China. The United States supported the anti- communist government in South Vietnam. It began to send military to help the South Vietnamese army. In 1969, president Nixon began a policy called Vietnamization, which involved the withdrawal of American troops from Vietnam. On April 30, 1975 Saigon city fell to the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese army. Vietnam was united.
