Korean War 한국 전쟁 By Chuong Nelson

What was the Korean War? The Korean War was a war between the Communists (North Korea) and non- communists (South Korea) otherwise known as a part of the Cold War. The Cold War was a tense relationship between America and Russia (USSR).The Korean war was also known as the forgotten war because it was overshadowed by more recent wars. In the Korean War there were Total civilians killed/wounded: 2.5 million 373,599 killed(on the south side) 229,625 wounded(se) 387,744 abducted/missing(se) North Korea: 1,550,000 Killed, wounded and missing.

When and where did the Korean War happen? The Korean War started in 25 June 1950 and finished in 27 July 1953 it was a war between South Korea and North Korea, otherwise known as the DPRK, in which a United Nations force dominated by the United States of America intervened to support the South and China intervened to support the DPRK.

Who was part of the Korean war? These nations on the South Korean side during the Korean War: UN, USA, South Korea, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and more These nations were on the North Korean side during the War: Democratic People's Republic of Korea, People's Republic of China, and Soviet Union

Australia was Involved in the Korean war because Australia was a part of the UN and the UN asked Australia to help. Approximately 17,000 men were sent to the Korean War and 339 killed, 1216 wounded and 29 prisoners of war. Why was Australia involved in Korean War?

Why did the Korean war happen? The first reason was the ‘Domino theory’ – China turned Communist in 1949 and Truman feared that the next ‘domino’ would be Japan. The second was to undermine Communism and protect the American way of life – in Thirdly, Truman realised the USA was in a competition for world domination with Russia. Russia went to war because Stalin wanted Communism to grow. In 1949, Kim Il Sung persuaded Stalin and Mao Tse Tung to support an invasion of South Korea. In 1950, Syngman Rhee threatened to attack North Korea.

What would happen if the Korean war started again? Obviously, if the war broke out again millions could die on both sides and hundreds of Korean refugees would flee North and South Korea to China, America, Australia or Japan. Plus the both Korea’s would end up totally destroyed as what happened during the first Korean War.
