2 Agenda What is Title I? Title I Funds Parent Rights under Title I Parent Involvement Title I Parent Involvement Policy Home/School Compact
3 What is Title I Title I is the largest federal education K-12 funding program that provides additional academic support and learning opportunities for students at schools with high percentages of socioeconomically disadvantaged children. The program is intended to help ensure that all students meet state and national academic standards.
4 Goals of Title I Increase academic achievement. Provide direct instructional support to students. Provide professional development for teachers. Promote parent education and involvement.
5 Title I Funds (cont.) One percent of a school’s total Title I budget is for parent involvement activities. Funds must supplement, not supplant, district funds.
6 Parent Rights Invited to participate in regular meetings and training sessions. Review students academic progress. Review the school’s achievement data. Review the parent involvement plan. Participate in decision making about how portions of the title one funds are spent. Review and modify the Title I Parent Involvement Policy and Home/School Compact. Have the right to know the qualifications of your child’s teachers
7 The Title I Parent Involvement Policy Every Title I school, in collaboration with parents, must prepare a parent involvement policy. The Parent Involvement Policy describes how the school will involve the parents in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in the planning, review, and improvement of the Title I program at the school.
